Obviously you seem not to grasp that police can do what they want based off their orders given for marathons, charities, protests, or parades. Police are out checking for suspicious characters and items since 9/11. They haven't let up so why now?
NYC would have an Army of Police for this event. ...and every police force in America since 9/11 has trained and prepared for events like this. So stop giving the excuse.

I don't agree with blowing up innocents... but that logic seems ok.. if they people were effective. In our face paced, saturated society, people r forgetting about this in a week, maybe two weeks if the media has an government initiative to push for.
You would have to do something 9 -11 times 3 to really get Americans attention to the point that they would ? the gov. Also, more than likely these events will cause most people to hid under the government for protection and willingly give up basic rights for that protection.

Eye Witness Suzanne Taylor of Huntsville said she noticed more of a military presence when the race with 27,000 runners started.
"We noticed that they had military upon the buildings watching," Taylor said. "I wonder if they had had some...that was kind of peculiar to me. That's kind of weird to have military people up there with binoculars before a running event at the start.
"It just didn't look normal. It just didn't look normal."
