I thought about what if Lashley didn't return to WWE but instead went to NJPW and immediately attacked Okada leading to a match where Lashley completely destroys him and wins the title.

...but would that have really hurt NJPW?

No, it probably would have helped if he was booked to be slightly smaller Bob Sappu and became a crossover star. Certainly would have been better than nerd ass knife fukk.

Ultimo Dragon would have held the WCW & WWF World title and all 20 of those Miscellanous Belts he had at the same damn time :blessed:

This is some real hindsight thinking, as the streak wasn't even an acknowledged thing for Taker until 2001, but really didn't start to matter until 2002, 3 1/2 years after Goldberg lost.
I remember “The Streak” being more of a “Did You Know?” tidbit/trivia piece before becoming a big deal at WM21 vs Orton in 2005, according to the IWC. I had stopped watching some time after WM20 and it was a “thing” when I watched again years later. It was never presented as a big deal when I watched before.

It first started getting mentioned at WM 17, and Taker made a big deal about going 10-0 at 18 against Flair, after that the streak was a main focus in anything he did at WM.

Would have pushed Punk harder than they did Roman, including ending the streak for the title.

Couple that come to mind:

1) Truth beating Cena at the Capital Carnage PPV. He had the juice at the time however we would have lost out on the Pipe Bomb, MITB Main Event, and Summer of Punk, which kinda snapped the WWE out of their Super PG rut
2) Pushing Morrison over the Miz. Morrison's the better athlete but even however many years later, he doesn't have a memorable promo. Miz to me had Jarrett go-away heat until the past 3-4 years.
3) Del Rio would have gone over Edge at Mania 27. It would have saved Edge forfeiting the belt, and the storyline with Christian would have been built in. Unfortunately given how erratic he was outside the ring, it wouldn't shock me if he somehow got RVD'd after winning at Mania
