The system is broken. IMO the only way to win is not to play. I'm done with any and all limited pressing vinyl drops. Freddie Gibbs did it perfectly with Bandana and Alfredo. Pre-order windows. No stress.

I used to be able to get Al drops through Bandcamp, but since moving to Shopify I got burned on all the Tea in China drops. Shopify is just too easy for bots to get through. The people tweaking bots are always going to be ahead of any counter measures. It's just like how hackers or any kind of criminals are always ahead of the people trying to stop them.

@areohbee82 was telling me about a Frank Ocean vinyl drop that was a 24-hour window pre-order. I din't understand why not to just do that. :mindblown: Surely it's annoying for Al and Body to get annoyed Tweets and DMs from fans all day. I mean even just a 1-hour pre-order window would get rid of annoyed fans and it would allow the artists' to make more money, while keeping the (overrated IMO) idea of exclusivity and rareness.

This is an album of the year contender. Pressing up a thousand copies of it with the bot and resellers being as vulturous as they are right ow is fukking stupid.

I can't imagine how much of a nightmare the Lulu Deluxe drop is gonna be in the next month or two. :snoop: I ain't even trying.

Tea in China is the most I've wanted an album on wax since Bandana. Definitely a bummer.

Hate to be that guy but I was mad as fukk at the 2 second bot sellout I dm’d Alc on IG :snoop::snoop::snoop:

I mean I don't blame you. You're a fan and you got fukked.
I personally know Al hates dealing with business shyt like this which is all the more perplexing. If he did pre-orders like Gibbs he'd make more money and not have to deal with complaints. More free time to be a weird hermit that just makes music all day.

shyt's a no brainer to me.

In 2020 he's really solidified himself and increased his visibility and profile. The days of pressing up 1,000 copies of an album he did just seem stupid as fukk now. Nobody thinks MadGibbs overdid it with a lot of pressings for Piñata and Bandana, and no one is going to think AlFred is overdoing it with their Alfredo.

People want the product. Just sell that shyt.

Oh well...I'll try one more time on the Lulu Deluxe and if I get burned it's a wrap. I'm out of the game until they change it to pre-orders.

Yea man that shyt was a disaster. I can't cop any of this new shyt anymore. I really wanted Pray For Paris on vinyl and that was impossible. fukkin bots. You are definitely on point about Gibbs. The pre-orders for Alfredo was flawless and works way better. I just don't understand why they do this rare shyt now and leave fans pissed. Pre orders and they would be making hand over fist money.

I've said it before but I GET why cats like Mach-Hommy and Fahim do very limited pressings. They don't have as big fan bases as Gibbs, Madlib, or Alc. It makes more sense for them to press up 500 copies or so and sell them at high prices, on some boutique/designer shyt. Maybe even even Roc Marci. It makes more sense because they aren't as big, and having a small number of records with huge dollar values helps them eat during a tough time in the industry.

But the 3 people I mentioned first are right on that border between mainstream and underground. They're too big for the boutique shyt now. I'd love to see the streaming numbers for Tea in China. I don't know how much each person listens to one album on average in 6 months, but I guarantee the numbers for this album support a hell of a lot more than the 1,500 copies or whatever low ass amount they pressed up.

If you guys haven't heard, TK is sending around a raffle to those on their mailing list this week for the remaining copies. Not getting my hopes up as that seems flawed too but worth a shot. Best of luck.
