I am long on oil (2-3 year investment). This is an election year. I think prices stay low until 2017, where I see a cut in production and a rise in price. 2017 is going to be a rough one brehs unless the Fed keeps the charade going.

Did you buy individual oil stocks or a fund? I'm thinking of buying an Oil ETF through Fidelity

I personally don't do commodity based ETFs since there are so many and they get so big that liquidity can become an issue in a crisis. Most ETF's use financial instruments and don't hold the physical commodity so if liquidity dries up like it did in 2008 there will be huge issues. For oil, I would recommend stocks like oil majors such as BP, Chevron, etc. or equipment manufacturers for oil extraction (need to find that list). More risky, you can also buy and hold currencies of oil producing nations not pegged to the US dollar like Norweigen krone, Russian rubles, or Nigerian naira. Canadian dollars too but there are other commodities such as gold, potash, etc. that also influence the CAD.
