yea i just found out i can withdraw early but they charge 10% tax :sadbron:

im actually on the 403(b) plan

I guess that would be fine when i hit the 5+ digit numbers. But how can a brotha get hooked up with regular stocks and shyt? where would be a good starting point?

You got to identify your timeline. Are you trying to invest for retirement or a house or something, or are you just trying to throw some money around and make some more by next week?

If you are doing the former look at some big fortune 500 company or vanguard index funds (or something similar) and let the cash sit for years.

If you want to do the latter, you have to follow markets. And I would recommend following them daily. Like looking at economic trends and just following the news. CNBC, Wall street journal, Yahoo finance, google finance, seekingalpha, there's plenty of resources out there. You can look at this thread and the last few pages of it and see what the posters in here like. A couple of the guys have made some good picks.

Recently entered into sizable position in YCS. with their debt problem, Japan has no choice but to further devalue the yen over the next few years. seems like a no-brainer

the ones I bolded aren't they kind of redundant? How many small cap funds do you need? you have to remember each fund has an expense tied to it so you may want to look at paring some of it down.

the agency handles all the transaction for my retirement fund. And quite honestly i dont know the first thing to do or even why i would do it. thats why i need some advice on where to start with all this stock shyt. I know u can eat off it good and there's safe routes to take for gurantee income.

well those small cap funds could easily carry different companies. it sounds like your fund is being professionally managed already.

I would tell you the only thing that is considered completely safe (risk-less) is US treasury notes, because the US is never going bankrupt. one of the first rules of finance is risk=reward. the less risk you take the less reward you'll see.

stocks are going to be risky and not ever going to be a guaranteed money maker. you can diversify the non-systematic risk away by diversifying your stocks. however systematic risks are still there (i.e. 2008-2009 financial crisis). over a long enough timeline though the stock market always goes up.

If you want something safe look at BRKB (warren buffett's company). it'll offer you instant diversification. although 117 a share might be a little expensive.

a lot of the stocks mentioned in here are done with a lot of speculation and risk. I'm assuming you're still kind of young so dont be afraid to take some risk you can make the money back.

The Ummah!
Somebody with the knowledge please help your boy.

American Airlines is going to Merge with US Airways, just like Delta and Northwest merged, and United and Continental. The Fed Gov sued to stop the merger. I dont think they will stop them from Merging in the end, EU already gave American the Okay. The stock for American dropped from $5.xx to $3.xx today. I am thinking about buying this stock assuming that when the airlines merge the stock will jump like UAL did. Now what confuses me is the AMR stock is not available because they filed some bankruptcy protection in 2010 or 11. The stock name is AAMRQ, whats the difference? If I purchase AAMRQ and the airlines merge and the stock goes up to lets say $8 will it remain AAMRQ or become AMR? Basically what I'm asking is when I invest in AAMRQ and american does good, they wont leave me out of the benefits? Thanks ahead of time.
