this has a bunch of offering circulars for CDOs (i.e. pools of mortgages or other loans)....before 2008

If you look at the first pages of these things you can see the ratings agencies giving all these AAA ratings. Even some of the junior tranches were receiving AAA. So either Wall Street was either gaming the ratings agencies or they were wholly complicit.

I always tell guys in here to check out the first post and reddit.com/r/investing and look at the sidebar on the right. It has a lot resources for people new to it. You can also always look at what your companies offers in terms of a retirement package and then you'd have a professional managing money for you.

Plus you can find websites that let you trade with play money.
