Anyone else think we start seeing an influx of financial gurus again, like at the start of the bandemic? :lupe:

I remember when everyone and they momma had financial plays and videos on YouTube.

That’s usually a sign as well.

I doubt it. It wasn't that hard to predict markets would rally after governments and central banks started printing money like crazy in 2020. Now things are a lot more unpredictable with inflation.

Visa ain’t really fintech. It’s about as much fintech as Chase.

Yea Visa and Mastercard are interesting players. By definition, they’re payment card networks but are adjacent to fintech, finance, tech etc.

Since they are the conduits to how we pay and get paid in the digital world, a lot of adjacent industries touch them (Visa and Mastercard).

They have very strong business models and value props.

algebra my friend...one of the few useful levels of math past elementary

x = desired new agv price
y = original # of shares you own
c = your current avg cost/share
z = # of new shares you need to buy
n = new price you're considering buying at

your example would never work as you can't avg down to the current lower price while having shares above the current price, but the formula is

x = (yc+zn)/(y+z) ---> solve for Z

if you had y=15 shares at c=$1.2/share, you want to buy z shares at $1.05 for a desired new avg of x=$1.1

1.1 = ((15*1.2)+ 1.05z)/15+z...z = 30 shares you'd need to buy @ 1.05 to average down to 1.1

Yes i typed all that out because i'm a nerd :hamster:
I looked at this for oveer 30 minutes, but can't figure it out. Is there a specific name for this formula?

How can I multiply z and n, and also add y and z, without knowing what z is. In the example you determined that z is 30, but how did you reach that conclusion?

Google "Stock average calculator" and that should help you out with some plug and play options rather than doing maths. Her formula will tell you what price point you need to buy stock at to get to a certain average price. If thats not working for you just play around with the calculator and you will find a good meeting point for you to average down to.

Appreciate it. I was intrigued by the formula though, I couldn't exactly figure out how to use it properly, but I did plug in a couple of different values for "z", and it kind of gave me a good idea of how much shares I would need to buy in order to reach a specific average price. It's a lot more shares than I expected.
