I understand people saying you're wasting your money in savings, but what is the minimum people should have in their savings at least? 5k? 8k?

what do yall have saved up and why that amount? because i'm hearing people say 2k max is needed for savings and the rest should go to stocks but I feel like that's too small.

It’s not amount it’s just an emergency fund for yourself. Which covers 3-6 months of expenses.I keep $6500 in my dcu account.

once I retire my goal is to increase that to $10000 and from that keep going up by the year.

Rule of thumb is enough for to survive , should you lose your job, for 3-6 months.

so that would differ person to person, depending on over head

I would counter and say, how secure do you feel in your job?

how reliable is your car? How new are the big appliances in your house (hvac, roof, AC etc)

do you have kids? Do you split bills with a s/o?

I think those are all underlying factors that I think you have to take in to account.

a year for me would probably be over kill, no kids, govt job, I rent an apt and my car is pretty reliable.
