I really think there needs to be some rule on how they report the success of an IPO. Shouldn't report the % increase on the number rich people can buy the stock at before retail buyers. Misleading as hell.

I don't think there's a set amount. I think it just depends what institutions get shares, how those shares are allocated to their financial advisers, and who are the loyal, wealthy clients of those advisers who can stomach the inherent risk.

I had an interview to be a financial adviser with Merrill Lynch and I guess they don't even take accounts to manage unless they are 250k or up... so I'd imagine you usually aren't getting IPO shares unless you have net worth exceeding a million.



I forgot I signed up for that. I guess I'm 26,123.
