what is the purpose in doing that? distorting the amount of actual trades/value?

what's the consensus on alu? hold?

distorting the price, make it look like theres a bunch of orders. They're in and out of stocks so fast if you can make a few pennies and do it 100s of times a day you make money. Some of these high frequency trading firms haven't had a day where they lose money trading in 4 years.

as far as ALU I really don't know much about the company.

Thanks, that's what I figured. Wild about some firms never loosing money.

Do you think they'll eventually feel push back from Congress/regulators etc?

Is every firm/bank involved in HFT now?

Do you feel they should be allowed to carry on doing this practice?

If they're manipulating stock prices why are they allowed to carry on?

congress and the sec has been having hearings on the matter recently

all the big banks are involved in this computer trading. And a lot of it is done in dark pools where its not traded in the open.

I'm not necessarily against it but I think they could implement certain rules and not let HFT front run customers orders.

I'm not sure that they're actually manipulating prices these computers are most of the trading done anymore in the markets. But they're rigging the game in their favor and changes could be made.

they've implemented some stuff last year that should stop anymore flash crashes

I don't know what the hell's going on in the S&P futures market but it's been acting very weird the last few weeks. Very low liquidity, then yesterday there was a blast of activity then the liquidity fell off a cliff. Not that I trade in this shyt but it's interesting. Some algorithm was dumping 1025 contracts every 2.5 seconds as you can see around 4:00 (1600 hours).
