Buffett swears by index funds...but he's a super long-term thinker and investor

A perfectly balanced portfolio should have them

:yeshrug:

That's also more practical when you are a billionaire lol. No normal person is making big money on an index fund by throwing in 50-100 bucks a paycheck. It should be used as a set and forget retirement option.

Because Buffett knows the average investor is likely to underperform indexes. Many people in here are smarter than the average investor though.

I won't pretend to be a trader, I'm an investor

I'll take the 15% I'm getting from my index fund and be happy with it...with it only being 10% of my portfolio, I just view it as being disciplined more than anything

You're right...but my goal is to throw $30k a yr into the market (no I wouldn't put a full $30k into index funds but I understand why ppl would)

Hypothetically, if I did that for 10 yrs, based on market returns, those would be excellent gains

@Hiphoplives4eva i'm listening to the $OPTI shareholder meeting. they say they'll end up with an excess of $100 million revenue from the 2 billion dollar deal which will be reported in Q1.
they're contemplating a stock buyback with some of that revenue and a reverse stock split is not their goal.

Take it to five years and SPY is up 94% but compared to ARKK which is over 500% it's nothing...

Bogle specifically mentioned index is for 20+ years. he mentioned that managed funds will beat it short term, but eventually index will catch up and beat most of the managed funds.

but i dont have that kinda patience and i love actively investing and picking my own stocks. so index is dead to me. it's strictly for a retirement account where you don't even bother to look at the account until you cash out at the end.
