This is what I'm talking about with these goofy black wrestling fans. He criticizes one company whose black wrestlers are winning titles, while praising another company just for having black wrestlers on the roster. Also how is it tokenism when they have Sasha as champ with Bianca challenging, Hurt Business having the tag titles, and the Street Profits having held the tag titles for over 10 months?
WWE certainly deserved criticism for how they treated black wrestlers in the recent past, but at least they seemed to have recognized their stupidity. Black wrestlers don't need to have all the titles all the time, but the days of them being used to put over the mediocre white hype needs to be eliminated.
This is so dumb. AEW might be diverse but the only area of the company where there is diversity at the top of the division is the women's division, which has been the laziest booked and treated part of the company since it's inception and the women are not put in situations to succeed. The top of the card: all white guys, the secondary title scene: all white guys + Ricky Starks, tag title scene: there's a lot of diversity but the only guys of importance are white guys. Cody basically gets his own division. There are no people of color in the main events. There are no people of color in prominent spots at all outside of the women's division, which again has had a string of completely lazy booking since day one and has largely revolved around 2 women for a year now. There's certainly decades and decades of atrocious behavior towards and booking of people of color in WWE, but it's hard to argue they're just tokenism booking people when they've had New Day in a heavily featured spot for what...7 years now? The top pushed guy for just as long as has been Samoan, the top stars of the women's division have been black and Japanese for years and the women's main event of WM will be two black women, Cedric was the star of 205 for quite a while and now The Hurt Business has been heavily featured for nearly a year up to and including a WWE Championship win and WM main event, Street Profits have dominated the tag scene on their show for nearly a year, and so on.
The closest AEW has gotten to this was a very short lived push for Scorpio Sky that saw him get one TV main event and then basically disappeared from TV for 9 months. Teams like LAX and Lucha Bros have been mid card teams and parts of stables instead of top stars like they've been used every where else. There are no black stars in AEW. The Latino stars have been used to boost up white stars. The Japanese stars are all in the women's division and treated like they exist in a different universe from the other women.
If you really want to see the difference, look at WWE's promotional material vs AEW's and see who WWE is putting all over their merch and branding in comparison to AEW.
