As far his family is concerned, he just married a woman with ulterior motives. She probably didn't marry for love. But as far as his kids are concerned the son is a disappointment, but the daughter loves him and the son-in-law admires him so I wonder if they would develop this story a little more.
But I don't think him being sour all the time takes away from his character, most of the time he's either in business mode or beast mode
Narcisse is killing them with, "its ceremonial as far as I know, but there is a first time for everything." I really hope his character stays around for awhile, I loved what Harlem represented at the time and the Harlem Renaissance be part of the show is golden. I'll be the first to say it, Narcisse could have a show on his own, considering major Italian gangsters did business in Harlem.
