Zuckerburg has literally had one good idea ever and it was basically reformatting MySpace for college-aged people in Facebook. So of course threads would fail.
It needs to Black Twitter to cross post - that’s why Twitter is still alive - that and all the sports aggregating and meme accounts. The thing is, their primary focus right now is buying new servers to help with bandwidth.
At the moment it's heavily restricted. Plus if it somehow slips through if someone reports it they're pretty quick on removing the posts

At the start? I think it was a miscalculation on his part. Then when he was forced to buy, he got funding from various shady sources. Then him and his buddies probably thought let's use this to get massive influence.

he could probably afford to buy gmail from google but users can move their email and use another email provider because email pop3/imap is open protocol web standard and no company has a monopoly on it much like the AT protocol and bluesky platform that can be forked to run a independent instance capable of federating with other services using the AT protocol.
