Never got big into Blu but this album is terrific. High skill rhymes with lots of personality, and Evidence really killed the beats here. He's grown so much since the Dilated days, as both a producer and a rapper

He broke down where/how he grew up in this interview

TLDR He was a ball player who moved a lot growing up and his mom & step father were very strict, he never listened to rap until high school when he moved in with his biological father.

He grew up in a lot of different hoods but if he is affiliated it probably would’ve been when he lived with his pops in San Pedro. At the end of the song 54th he shouted out Dodge City (a crip hood in San Pedro) and other hoods across LA, the fact he named them first though probably means thats who he was tied in the most with.

How did “Lost Angel” not make the album? :mjtf:

Production was great & that was vintage Blu.
I listened to Ev talk about the album and basically he was saying that Blu really wanted to keep the album about Los Angeles as a city, and not really make a super personal album or anything like that. And Ev said at first he was bummed out because he didn't really want to produce a concept album and just wanted Blu to do a normal regular album without a specific concept for the whole thing, and Ev was thinking "damn how many songs can you make about LA?"

But he said as they got going he started rolling with it and started loving it. So, I'm assuming Lost Angel isn't on the album because it doesn't really fit the theme of the rest of the project. But I don't know if that's for sure the answer

That's crazy, it literally fits in perfect if it's placed in between or right before "Hell", "Heaven" & "Wish You Were Here"...

It's a very solid album though.

I hope rappers will follow suite with the 1 producer for the album, it's really producing some very good sounding albums.

I've enjoyed this year far more then last year musically.

Interesting. I feel like it's a loose concept album and therefore Lost Angel would fit. Ultimately the track is about living in LA right? Lot of flexibility, conceptually IMO.

The first half of this has some of the worst beats I've ever heard. Just pure noise. The land is dope though. I prefer the more soulful second half
