I have been to the Dominicans twice and each time they damaged my hair..the top of my hair was completely straight, it was so bad I had to relax the remainder to match

DO OR DIE
I agree with most of the ladies opinions above. It's not really a big issue since black people will go where they feel comfortable. Also, $50 for a blow n curl? I've never been to a Dominican spot charging more than $30 for this but it may vary by area. You can even get it cheaper bringing your own products.

This is targeting whites and try too hard blacks. I get the point that these white girls are being dismissive of the originators but oh well. Business is business.

Exactly. I guess I just see it as a business thing because this woman is also competing with white salons that take 4 hrs to do hair.

The wine thing is a new gimmick that's all over the place. All kinds of businesses are adding wine to attract trendy and more customers and keep them. There's wine and painting, wine and manicures, wine and hair salons, they've been around for a while. Nothing strikes me as this woman competing for black business. To me the comment on Dominican salons was an after thought, like "oh yeah of course we want business, of course we want black customers. We offer this and this and we hope black customers will come in too" . It may sound like she's targeting an ethnic group because she said "Dominican" but really that's a type of salon like anywhere else.

Already happened, friend did the Organix Brazilian keratin treatment on me. She damaged my curl pattern on some small parts of my hair :to: She did too much with the flat iron. :to:

Its ok now though. @ANewClassic can you say your beauty shop or too confidential?

From what I understand, the only remedy is to cut your hair...I'm so sorry that happened to you

Don't they straighten hair at most salons? What's the problem? I don't understand.

The issue is that Type 1 hair (bone straight) is different than Type 4 (kinky, curly, highly textured) hair. You can't handle the two in the same way. If your hair is natural, you'd understand!

Thank you

Luckly it was just a few parts of my hair. I ended up cutting the longer strands to match the rest. So I am triming it out. little by little. Haven't put heat on it since but I am going to soon.

I'v never had any chemicals in my hair. I thought one salon was complaining about the other salon straightening hair. I thought that all salons could straighten hair.

I think the difference is doing it the right way! I've heard horror stories of having your hair pulled out, over processed using heat, I've even heard of salons adding relaxer to conditioner w/o the knowledge or consent of the customer. That being said, these horror stories happen regardless of the race of the stylist.
