Fact of the matter is games cost more than ever to make and they need to sell an insane amount copies to break even much less be profitable and while this can apply to both Sony and Microsoft but more so Microsoft because they dropped 2 duds in a row. Nintendo might feel the pressure during the Switch 2 era) this is really where we are at with gaming in general.

This is the result of leadership failure and everyone chasing the open world, "more" design philosophy. We have all these bloated games now and there's no way for people to play everything. Some of this shyt feels like a job when you pick it up because there's 50 different crafting/upgrade systems with a million things to pick up around the game world.

Elden Ring is an outlier on the sales charts. Year after year, you see COD and the annual sports games in the top ten. Nevermind being mainstays; you know why they sell every single year? They're easy to pick up and play. If you skipped COD for five years, you could play the new one and immediately know how to aim/fire your gun or throw a grenade; it's simple. I haven't bought Madden since PS3 but I bought College Football this year. Picking plays and controlling players was just as I remembered it.

Some of the best sellers since 2019: God of War, Spider-Man, Zelda, Diablo, Mortal Kombat, Pokeman, Lego games, Resident Evil, Mario Kart, Smash, Last Of Us and Animal Crossing. There's a certain level of depth if you really dig into those games but for the most part, any casual gamer can pick them up and enjoy them. There aren't complicated to understand at a basic level.

Helldivers 2 was a breakout, smash hit this year. Why? It's simple, stupid fun. Good graphics with simple, goofy gameplay that's easy to learn within five minutes.

They need to start having realistic sales expectations period

The analysts and people in charge of sales expectations are delusional with their forecasting. And they get rewarded when wrong regardless but the studios and devs suffer.

The goal.

Make playatation less appealing by taking away major games even if it means mutual destruction because Microsoft has more money to recover from the ashes.

Game Pass like various forms of subscription services are not turning as much profit as they want
  • Inflation making gaming seem like a 4K luxury, rather than a hobby
  • Too many games right now and not enough time to play them
  • Understanding of AI to cut cost and human resources
Lets face it, heads hate to address the black eye in the timeframe, but big tech was thriving during the pandemic. People were at home so money had to be made. Rather its buying out developers and hiring a lot of manpower, the cashflow needed to keep going in the midst of the sick and deprived. Now here's the dark reality of such a decision:

  • WFH gang mayyyy have to go back to the office to justify the reason to have the building in the first place
  • Gamers have jobs, outdoor activities, and mating to do, instead of being stuck in a overwhelming gaming experience
  • Gamepass like countless subscriptions need to turn profit to justify the spending on such a product (bad enough, developers are rarely getting paid with these services and thus, it's hurting the AA and indie brehs.
Its a sad state of affairs, but we are truly heading into a crash. All I know is that WOW brehs are thriving and Once Human is GOTY :whew:
