A show that could have been, and for the first two seasons was, a great deconstruction of family, turned into a by the numbers drama. The whole Cuban angle felt extremely thrown in and I knew there was gonna be some sort of sting angle. The 9th episode was trying to be something that the rest of this season made it impossible to be. This show had the opportunity to examine family in a way not many shows have done. Sopranos was about a man juggling two families. This could have been a look at just how far reaching, uplifting at times, yet constraining, even poisonous it can be. The third generation was handled very poorly. Nolan got some development, but John's kids barely existed. John's daughter getting slapped by Sally last season had more effect than anything this season. Sissy Spacek did a great job this season doeKyle Chandler, just like with his imaginary Rayburn family, held this show together for three seasons. Ben Mendelsohn was the real MVP
