Nobody knows how to make a 90 minute film anymore.
90 minutes in today's age is a bad sign the movie is trash unless it's an animated feature.

Comedies used to be 100 minutes or less then Apatow started making 2 hour long comedies and shyt. Horror and comedies and most action flicks don't need to be 2 hours long.

Endgame shouldn't have been 3 hours long either. Jesus Christ. shyt ain't the godfather. Lmao

Yeah 2014 you had Godzilla. 2015 you had Kong. You can’t wait 5-6 years anymore. There’s too much vying for attention and people lose interest real quick. Like 0-100 real quick. You can’t take time off unless you’re something like Bond, which is a name brand and has a built in fan base around the world. And that fan base is used to waiting.
Kong came out 2 years ago. But yeah the lay off doesnt help nor did the 2014 Godzilla being underwhelming help it's cause either.

In my honest opinion, these filmmakers and studios just lost sight of what makes a movie good. The cgi just doesn't cut it anymore and has replaced movie stars and storylines. It's probably the worst thing to happen to film. Along with the digital camera as many of these movies especially a lot of the comic book films just don't look right. Doesnt feel like I'm watching a real movie if that makes sense.

I like going back and watching older movies and the use of actual film makes such a big difference.

I don’t think it’s that simple tho. I wish it was. Because there’s a whole group of audience members who don’t know a world of practical effects so they don’t give a shyt about something they’ve never known. If you’re 18 today, you came up during the age of the mummy returns and the Star Wars prequels and everything being a CGI fest. That practical effect shyt is something the 30 and over club care about.

For me, it just comes down to what does the audience want. Back to that podcast I mentioned, but the hosts often talk about the late 80s and early 90s being a time where Hollywood was trying to figure shyt out. Especially the early 90s. Right up until the indie boom and that’s when they realized what the audience wanted. They wanted new twists on the same old shyt they’d seen for the previous decade rather than the same exact stuff from the 80s. But there’s no science to it; you just take your swing and hope you connect.

A lot of these movies start to look the same and feel the same and now you’re competing with tv, which has the budget of smaller movies from the 90s and early 2000s and they’re telling compelling stories. But at the same time, audiences have said they don’t want to go to a movie unless it’s a blockbuster or a horror flick—depending on the flick—or something in that vain. So right now you’re damned

I'm talking about the entire movie relying on cgi. All that effort to make the monster look cool and no thought put into story or likeable characters. They put all their eggs in one basket. At least with Avengers people like the characters so we can tolerate some iffy effects because the characters carry the movies.

And just cuz kids few up on cgi doesn't mean movies from previous decades don't exist and aren't still revered and or loved by these same kids. They know if something looks off or dumb. Hell these nerds are all over YouTube disecting every frame of these movies. And the fact that a lot of these cgi fest films are flopping is a sign that something has to give.

Nobody in here was worried about a stan war between the lowest common denominator of cinema today until you came in like you always do trying to start some nonsense. You think you're being funny or clever but you're just incredibly annoying. And honestly, the worst part about it is that someone will call you out on this behavior, and then you'll try to turn it around on some "b-b-but what about these other movies? don't yall care about them? :hubie: why ya'll worried about me/marvel? :mjcry:"

Sincerely, shut the fukk up man. You're not funny, you're not clever, and you're damn near reaching levels of becoming a blight on the forum. I don't care how much of "MarvelGang" co-signs your posts. This shyt right here is a microcosm of why comic book movies are worst genre in film right now.

Haven’t seen a movie in theaters since Endgame. Not planning on seeing anything until Spidey and after that, the only other movies I’m seeing is Hobbs & Shaw and Lion King until IT chapter 2 drops.

Just fed up with the shytty posts. Dude is insufferable at times.

Ever since I blocked dude the film room has been :blessed: and I only ever put one other person on ignore in my Coli/SoHH life.

Not sure if it's being reported but I feel like the shift in the worldwide gross is also impacting American Blockbuster movies. Aladdin is recent example where they went with a diverse cast and it paid off. Money outside of the US/Europe matters more now.

MIB really believed it was doing something wild by making it take place in fukking LONDON :dead:

Yeah, they're definitely stigmatized and prestige movies aren't clocking in short of 2 hours.

Until Hollywood has a reason to make shorter films they won't and audiences don't seem to be complaining.

Which is interesting given how much we hear about attention spans today.

There are enough MCU movies out there that i don't really need the theater experience for anything else unless it super hyped up. I can wait for it to hit stream.
Not really blockbuster fatigue, just Marvel satiety :pachaha:

Without the MCU i probably would've seen every single one of those movies in theaters.

That’s fair as far as it being all cgi. Im with you there. But I just don’t believe a previous gen is in awe with something they didn’t grow up with. Yeah there are probably a few of them but it doesn’t hit the same. Like with hip hop, I’m sure there are a handful of fans who love the 90s shyt even if they weren’t alive during that era. But for the majority? They’re going to rock with the shyt that’s of their time. I respect the shyt kurtis blow did and put it in context but I’m not rushing home to listen to the breaks.

So with film, the majority of kids in their 20s now will probably be cool with the trends they know. And even then you don’t have to be in your 20s. I showed the thing to a friend of mine and she said it looked cheesy. Showed her the prequel from 2011 which is all cgi and she had no issue with it. She’s used to the latter and not the former and doesn’t have any warm tingly feelings for the former.
