There's two ways you can look at the treatment of black people.

1. We are viewed as less than animals.
2. We are viewed as superior, God's of the Earth.

If we were truly, deep in their psychology viewed as less than animals, the actions taken against us would be different. Our cries would be met with, "Stfu". As vicious as they've been, there's always this hint of FEAR. As if they put magic on us and fear the spell is wearing off.
