It isnt restricted to that meaning. There are two meanings. One negative and one normal all depending on the context.
  • : a person who behaves awkwardly around other people and usually has unstylish clothes, hair, etc.

  • : a person who is very interested in technical subjects, computers, etc.
All you have to be is either one or the other to be a nerd. You dont have to be the first meaning to be a nerd.

The primary definition of nerd is someone who is smart but, socially awkward.

For example, you wouldn't say Malcolm X was a nerd because the imagery associated with "nerd" makes it the wrong word to describe him. You would say he was intelligent.

nah bro y'all are changing the definition of a nerd.

A nerd 10 years ago aren't the guys being posted here.

maxresdefault.jpg

This guy is what would have been defined as a nerd a decade ago. You gon tell me them cosplaying chicks that are bad af, are not socially awkward but got an interest for anime and cosplaying are nerds too?! :shaq2:

Y'all want the perks of being a nerd but not the consequences. Nerds were picked on and bullied in school. They were last or not even picked to be on a team during gym time.
If they do not have nerdy interests then they will not be classified as a nerd.

You can be antisocial and not be nerd. :dead:

Which one do you think you are?

You can be a nerd and like sports and be handsome.
The second meaning. I have nerdy interests.

Nope, thats the definition of a nerd in a negative context only.

A person who is socially awkward is a person who is socially awkward.

In the neutral/positive context a nerd is a person with nerdy interests.

Real talk, and most of those gamer chicks are just there cause of all the male attention and perks of supposedly being "down" for the nerd struggle. They basically are just profiting off of it, best beleive they ain't attracted to them nikkas with glasses, no bass in their voice, terrible hairline, who are socially awkward and can talk for hours about the queen dragon on some role playing game.

THAT shyt DOES NOT MAKE THE p*ssy WET!

A handsome guy with swag but also smarts is not a nerd, y'all trying to change the definition!

This is real shyt

You fukking jabron he gave you Webster's definition :mjlol:

He is 100% right
My definition was from websters dumbass :pachaha:

He is half right. Not all nerds are the one from the negative context. Since he only mentioned the word in a negative context yet it has another meaning for a neutral context which is the second meaning below.

  • : a person who behaves awkwardly around other people and usually has unstylish clothes, hair, etc.

  • : a person who is very interested in technical subjects, computers, etc.

A person who is socially awkward is a person who is socially awkward.

In the neutral context a nerd is a person with nerdy interests.

You trying to make the word what you want the word to be.

Nerd has always had an negative connotation. Always. It's only recently been co-opted by hipsters and millennials as something cool. Nerd has always meant socially awkward. This wasn't a term of endearment even ten years ago. The words you're looking for are: smart, intelligent, educated, etc. Like I said, nobody would call Malcolm X a nerd.

What are your hobbies? :lupe:

I'm genuinely interested
My hobbies are always changing. When I start one thing I put my all into it. Anyways, from a very early age I was using computers and damn near good at it. Troubleshooting problems at like 9-11 years old that grown adults today would take to the store or call for help on.

At around 12 I would write and edit code for open source gaming and host my own gaming servers for people to play on. I built my first custom built computer back in 2012. I like researching other cultures and languages. Besides for English and the language my parents speak I can speak basic Spanish, and know a little Japanese and Korean.

I also have other hobbies like basketball, boxing (started going to a boxing gym and heavily researched it right when I started college). I'm always learning new things and trying out new stuff. I used to be a huge anime fan and would watch up to 12-14 seasonal anime at a time. I don't have the time for it anymore though. I have had other hobbies but I just don't remember them at the moment.

With all this said I wouldn't classify myself as a nerd. I was shy and quiet growing up but I wasn't socially awkward, physically challenged etc like real nerds. I even hung out with legit nerds in middle school. They definitely aren't part of the popular group, and I resonated with them more because the popular kids were fake, looked down on other people etc. But with nerds it isn't much difference, they talk shyt like everyone else, have a hierarchy etc.

And in middle school and high school I was one of the top athletes of my grade. Tall, good-looking, smart (got straight A's without trying and studied the night before a test), athletic, etc. And I was not a nerd. I definitely wasn't smooth with the ladies though :francis:. When I was a junior the baddest black chick in my school (she was a year older) with a phatty was chasing yo cutty for weeks. And it's not like I didn't know either, cause she would randomly show up with her friends when I had gym and watch me play ball. I just wasn't interested in her, the me today wouldn't turn that down tho :wow:. Every brother in that school wanted her, them nikkas probably thought I was gay :mjlol:

I am not trying to change it to how I want to be lol.

I am just looking at the word from its current definition which isnt just negative. The word nerd can be neutral and its those with nerdy interests and views on it varies from person to person and it can have a negative or neutral context.

Nowadays nerdy interests are becoming more popular so the term nerd doesnt only have a negative connotation anymore.

You gotta get with the times bro

Real talk, I've been saying exactly this. Even if that's the definition of the word in the dictionary we are going based off the real world and reality. A decade ago the guys seen above were not nerds unless they were socially awkward, physically challenged etc.

This so much. Being a "nerd" is now the in thing. And don't get me started on those fake gamer girls. :beli: Or that garbage show Big Bang Theory.

Obviously, but the VAST MAJORITY of people who were socially awkward were those nerdy type dudes who all sat together at lunch with yugioh cards and shyt in middle school and high school.

There's another one on Facebook called: The Extraordinary Journey of a Black Nerd group....:blessed: thank god for this group...

for starters it isn't a black group centered on racial issues, rap music, sports or thots (and I love all of those things...)...but it's nice to be in a group by other black people with similar interests outside of our mainstream without having to be around a lot of white people.

I love that group.
