Even if it's true that you're truly a good friend to your black female friends, it doesn't change the fact that white women (or even white people in general, for that matter) are not the friends of black people.

Of course there is white privilege - I understand this. That still doesn't mean that my ancestors had a direct correlation to slavery - because they did not - and that's not an excuse or a justification, it's just a fact. Do I have white privilege though? Yes.

I don't think I'm a hero at all because I have black friends. I don't think it awards me any type of privileges or that I can "relate" to something that I clearly cannot relate to. I didn't insinuate this. I just spoke about my personal experience...and the fact is, I love my friend because she's an amazing human being. We don't always see eye to eye (that's pretty normal with friends, no?) and we often talk about race relations and there are some things that I don't get right away until she explains them - and I don't and can't get them because I'm white. I see things from a different perspective than her - I see things from a white privilege perspective. That doesn't make me a bad friend and doesn't mean that I don't genuinely love her or want the best for her...it just means we come from different places and have different experiences.

I didn't even mention the race card...because racism does exist and people experience it all the time...and maybe something that I wouldn't recognize as being "racist" really is - but I can't recognize that it is because of white privilege...I just said that despite whatever this lady is saying (and I don't have the opportunity to hear it right now)...but based on the comments in the thread and the thread topic, I get an idea...doesn't apply to MY relationship with my friend. Nor do I believe that a white female cannot genuinely be friends with a black female. How can I believe that when in my experience it's the complete opposite? That's all.

I listened to the video. It's interesting because I grew up in the same town that Adele chick is from. Guess who were the same girls who helped teach her to sing and guess who is eating now and who is not. I know a few of the girls who used to sing with her when she was younger and they are vastly more talented.

You don't have to believe me...it's not anything you know about for you to judge though.

I just give my opinion...you can take it or leave it. I actually like engaging in intelligent conversations - whether about race relations, gender relations, politics etc...I feel that this is a great way to learn - to listen what people have to say and to have people express their views to you. Whether I agree with something or not, if someone is respectful about the subject, then I can appreciate what he/she has to say.
