Maybe. As children, we don't really see race...but we do as adults. And, especially if a person has had negative experiences with a group of people...well, it naturally makes that person more cautious. However, I still believe in accessing individuals individually - because we're not all totally the same at the core. My best friend is just one example, but I'm friends with women of all sorts of races/cultures.

I'm not aware of today's children being lynched...definitely not in Canada and I'm assuming it doesn't happen in the US (does it?)

I didn't grow up in this time - and where I come from, slavery of black people never existed. It's not my reality and neither was it my ancestors' reality. The only slavery we experienced was when we were slaves under the Ottoman (Turkish) empire for over 500 years. Having the same skin colour doesn't make people's experiences similar.

The type of privilege where you think having a black friend since childhood makes you some kind of hero.
