The doormen at popular night clubs give preferential treatment to women that look mixed or not quite black. I know this may sound wild, but I have to be detailed so I can paint the picture. A few years ago my friends and I went to Los Angeles for a girls trip. We all are from New York and know full well how to dress up for nightclub events ( dress, heels, makeup the whole nine). I can attest that we’ve been to a bunch of snobby clubs in NYC and had no problem gaining entry because of our looks. We went to this day party called Toxic because Trey Songz was hosting. We waited on line for perhaps an hour. We finally got to the front of the line and the doorman got a walkie talkie message saying they could only allow two more groups of women. The man walked right past us and grabbed the group of Appolonia / Spanish girls behind us then told us the party was full -____-
It was a humbling experience and just showed me what flavor they be on over there.
It has NEVER happened to my group of friends in NY.

Are West Indians and Africans in LA true to being black?

I don’t know much Caribbean when Africans in NY who are colorist.

For example a lot of African American women I know don’t have problems attracting Africans and Caribbeans it’s the traditional customs they aren’t used to it that makes dating difficult.

From my dad’s side, my cousins and I were all born in South Central LA (that we’re born in the States). I’m the eldest and we moved to SD when I was two. My brother only fooled with white and Mexican. One Cousin has a Samoan baby momma, another has a white Wife who is now pregnant, and the youngest is engaged to a white girl. All of them moved from South LA young though to Riverside and Murrieta.

The West Coast brothas move on different time regardless. From Tacoma to SD, they knock down whatever they can and don’t mind seeding up anything outside of their race.

I once met Golden Brooks (from the show Girlfriends). In person, she was stunning, same as television. In pictures she looks weird. Anyway, I tried to shoot my shot and she was polite enough to slide me her manager's number.

My point is... if you're attractive like that, men will approach you. Being average with more melanin wins you no brownie points. You'll still get passed over in this part of the country.

This is absolutely true. As a New Yorker who’s been to LA , the beauty standard is very non black. In order to be considered attractive, you need to be mixed or other. Watching doormen at nightclubs are a great example.
