Whats with all of these symbolic gestures though?
I love black women...but seriously.
is it just too much to respect us as human beings?
I guess it is.
the BLM movement was started by black women, 1984.
we can't pretend to not notice the thousands of Black women who drop everything to organize, defend and advocate on behalf of black men.
and black women respond this way every time this happens.
it's not just empty or symbolic gestures. these women take off work, risk imprisonment, risk [future] ostracization (especially with their pictures being taken), and risk physical and emotional safety, out of love for Black men.
getting tear gassed and arrested, in defence of black men you didn't even know - men who may or may not have been willing to do the same for you, isn't just a symbolic gesture.
edit : i see y'all already discussed it.
