First of all, this story wasn't "exposed" and was never proven fake. Someone posted a nice story on the internet, and online nerd detectives did what they tend to do and jumped to a bunch of conspiratorial conclusions.

The image—and the outrage—quickly went viral, prompting Olive Garden's parent company, Darden, to defend itself and its customers.

"The receipt is real and was posted by the guests, not by anyone at Olive Garden or Darden," Tara Gray, media and communication manager for Darden, told Yahoo! Shine in an email on Wednesday. "We are always looking for ways to surprise and delight our guests, and this was one of the ways the Olive Garden team in Vernon Hills, Ill., did that last weekend."

Darden's marketing firm, Grey Worldwide, also denied they played a part in the posting.

"Grey had absolutely nothing to do with post concerning Olive Garden," a representative told Consumerist. "It would be against our code of conduct."

This isn't the first time that the restaurant's staff has committed a random act of kindness. Earlier this month in Lubbock, Texas, an Olive Garden employee picked up the tab for a soldier who was being deployed the next day.

"I didn't do it for any recognition," Dawn Ward told local news site EverythingLubbock.com. "I did it because it is the right thing to do."

Just because skepticism exist in general, doesn't mean that there isn't a racial element when cacs are being *particularly* suspicious to the claims of a black women, especially in a racially charged case like this where she was specifically the target of racism.

A teenage waitress who claims a customer left her a racist insult in the ‘tip’ line of a receipt, has been suspended with pay while the matter is investigated.

Toni Christina Jenkins had been serving a couple at a Red Lobster restaurant in Tennessee on Saturday afternoon when she discovered the slur.

The 19-year-old nursing student posted the receipt on Facebook which shows the words “None, ******” written in the space meant for gratuity.

The image went viral and on Tuesday it emerged the part-time waitress is off work while the company looks into the incident.

Spokesman Mike Bernstein told the New York Daily News Jenkins is currently suspended with pay, adding this was “standard practice” and that so far the suspension has not overlapped with any of the days she was scheduled to work.

A statement from Red Lobster said: “This kind of language is completely disgusting and has no place in our restaurant or anywhere else, and we are committed to getting to the bottom of what happened as quickly as possible.”

And I dunno if you have any friends(probably not) but one will invite you over to a party or whatever, and you have no control over who else attends. I didn't get my feelings hurt, but it was eye opening to see that that even a friend would think of you this way, instead of some random white person who you'd expect it from.
