I understand what you mean, but in this case the guy looked like the average black person in America. Why would he be confused when the officer calls him black? I think he has an issue with being a black man(race), but use being Puerto Rican as a disguise to not wanting to be black. You can tell based on his reaction to being called black. I think this is the case with a lot of latins, its just that because of the way shyt works in their countries, they can easily forget how much race plays in their struggling, and they start to believe they are different from other blacks when it comes to race, and racism.
The sad part of this is, he is a black man(race), but because he won't see it, he will never see the racism that is effecting his life. The fact that they were being mistreated was because he is black, yet he doesn't see this. I don't think it's going to be a good ride for latins in this country if they keep ignoring they are black or mixed race, and Mexicans who can slide in with whites start gaining power. Being Latin won't mean anything, besides allowing politicians to play them.
I think in a few years a lot of latins are going to wake up to the trick that was played on them for hundreds of years. The illusion of inclusion. Here we were blessed with the "one drop rule", because it forced us to not become complacent with the lies. Over there the lie of a inclusion, and not being as bad as blacks made latins not see the truth, and the power they have because it seems like every Latin country, the darker you are the worse your life is, yet I keep hearing how racism isn't as bad as it is over here. Talk about being blind
