I think some of these folks were just socially awkward and associated people cracking jokes as them not liking them for being smart. A lot of these dudes seem to have very low social IQ. I never experience someone clowning someone for being smart or doing well in school. Not sure how that would land and be taken as a slight.
na

I cant go with your side because motherfukkers where I was at did make fun of me about grades not understanding.... it wasn't a diss

but to write everyone off as socially awkward because their experience wasn't yours, I cant ride with that

different times

Yes they do, especially towards black men. If you don’t fit a certain image within the community than people will mock you, called you lame and treat you like an outcast.

Black men in particular get clowned all the time (usually by other black men ironically) for being short, nerdy, introverted, polite, religious, not being promiscuous and etc. I’ve seen it happen many times during and even after high school. What in the world makes anyone think being educated and clean will be an exception?

No they don't.

They clown you for 'sounding white' though.

They damn sure getting clowned for “talking white” though.

:sas2:

Which has nothing to do with being educated or smart. I doubt a Black kid would say Maya Angelou or Denzel Washington sounds white just because they use good diction and complete sentences with no slang. Everyone likes to act dumb when we know "talking white" is exactly that. A Black person imitating an unnatural Valley girl/surfer dude white inflection in their voice.

Sure thing…

So you seen dudes made fun of for being smart but you weren’t made fun of for it. So, you was a dumb muthafukka?
You getting in your emotions cause deep down you know what I said in my original post was correct.

Black men get clowned and mocked for all sorts of reasons all the time wether it’s for being smart and having a clean background, being short, being too introverted, being a Christian, having “white” interests, not sleeping around with a bunch of women and etc.

I went to Terrytown for elementary. I’d say it was 50/50 in the 90’s (black/white). I tested for the GT classes and didn’t pass.
:aicmon:
Still got straight As though. Went to OP Walker for 7th grade. The top 20 students stayed together for all our classes. They were clowning me for being smart. There were days were didn’t learn anything because of all the disruptions.
:wtf:
Ended up getting into Edna Karr for 8th grade. Same issues but the kids were generally better and the teachers didn’t play.
Maybe 8 of us out of my Walker class got picked up. Them boys were still clownin but started to get left behind.
:heh:

This is definitely one of the biggest lies I’ve ever heard. Socially awkward dweebs get teased across every ethnic group but smart people that get good grades are usually among the most popular people. My boy is a pharmacist, always got good grades, didn’t get into trouble, and he was the HC King.

I was a hell raiser that got horrible grades in the 9th and 10th grade and people avoided me. That was the case for most of the guys that I ran with at that time too. When I got my act together, the chicks start gravitating towards me, I made more friends, and the coaches encouraged me to play sports.
Yea different places have different experiences. The nikkaz kept back, skipping class, following no rules, fighting was the popular nikkaz lol

When I finished my Masters Degree, my grandmother unexpectedly announced to the family that I completed my Masters and graduated with a 3.94 GPA. She harped on the GPA because it was all A's and one B+. The B+ was 89.95 and I asked the professor to round it to 90 so I would get an A- and he told me to kick rocks.

The family's response was complete silence. Uncle, Aunt, Aunt in Law, Uncle in Law, cousins. My Aunt said "damn" and my Aunt in Law said something about never coming close to that in school. But not a single person said congrats, clapped, cheered or anything. None of them ever cared about school like that and some of them are heavy into "real nikka street shyt"

My mom of course was super happy for me and had been for weeks. I told her that I felt really awkward about grandma doing that and had I known she planned on doing that I would have asked her to not say anything out of fear of that response. I'm not the type that likes public recognition anyway.
