Read though the thread few thoughts
1. Trying to specify what to call ourselves based on history is an exercise in futility. We are the oldest people here on the planet and it's impossible to find what we originally called ourselves. So you could basically nitpick at any title given.
2. Alkebulan is an Arabic term, I don't waste time trying to discourage those who like to identify at that either. Because as I said what do you call a people with no beginning? We estimate 190k years ago.
3. The "named after a white man " shame tactic is delusional and baseless. Let's give an illustration here, we can make an argument that it was an "african" that europe and america was named after. What has that done to stop European domination and power from military, academics, economically socially and politically? The answer is nothing. Because they didn't waste time fighting too long on what to call themselves. Hell they would even just lie to push the agenda forward.
4. Africa is what it is commonly known as, until we get the academic and media to change that, I'll just be a african to stay connected with my people. Just like I will be black to stay connected with my people. If black legally means 2nd class, than I guess I will just be 2nd class, cause I'm not disconnecting my self from the poor and impoverished of my people on a baseless principle.
5. Words have the power and definition we give them, and words change meaning overtime. Evident by once again Europeans empowering themselves on the identification of white. We have used black to empower ourselves and african to do the same. The FBI just put out a memo proving they don't see black as only a color. They see it as a national threat.
6. Lastly, africa was not named "after" a roman. The Roman name was Scipio, he adopted the name "from" The natives of that land. There were in fact afrique people and a afar people and "afra-ika" was found in the mtu neter and it meant "beginning lands " that is why you can't find the term africa among roman language and also why Scipio africanus still named his sons Scipio, and only his daughter who he knew wouldn't carry on the name was named last name africanus.
But even if you could say africa was named after a white man, so what?! What does that do to stop us empowering ourselves now. What's funny is people who say they don't want to be known as african because of some principles if it being named by Romans but walk around with the 1st and last names of they slave masters all willy nilly.
same ones saying they not african cause of the misnomer of being named after Romans but believe in the bible brought to you by white folks specifically the greeks, celebrating European holidays and use the white man Internet to tell you they don't want to be african
