Court: Criminal charges against Slager jury foreman dropped during trial

CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - A criminal charge against the foreman of the Michael Slager murder trial was dropped during the trial, according to court records.
Dorsey Montgomery had been charged with breach of trust with fraudulent intent, meaning he was accused of stealing between $2,000 and $10,000, according to the Charleston County Clerk of Court's office.
"So I had a past," Montgomery told Live 5 News Thursday night."I was working at another place. I was discounting items, trying to help individuals in my ignorance. And so I didn't do it the right way. And so because I didn't do it the right way, I broke the law."
Prosecutor Scarlet Wilson said her office could not comment on the dismissal of charges.
"All parties were aware of his charges," Wilson said in a statement. "Our team was not involved in or aware of the resolution."
"That is resolved," Montgomery said. "There were no shenanigans. As they tried to say that me and the solicitor had a deal going on on the side, all that is false information. None of that happened."
Slager is the former North Charleston police officer charged with the murder of Walter Scott, who fled a traffic stop on April 4, 2015. Slager maintained he and Scott wound up in a scuffle during which Scott grabbed Slager's Taser and pointed it at him, forcing Slager to fire at Scott.
Montgomery served as jury foreman. The trial ended in a mistrial on Monday.
Authorities have not yet responded to a request for an incident report in the breach of trust investigation that led to charges against Montgomery.
