Would we class this as cultural appropriation...
No, he did what he had to do to follow his dream. No different than what Sammy Davis Jr had to do. This is Mexico not NYC, different rules different music scene. Yea, I think Mexico does have an issue w/ color grades, but for now he's got to play those rules because it is their world. Pretty crazy but that's the "segregated music business" for you.

If Robin Thicke can take over the R&B charts, then this guy can sing w/ Accordions, bandos and trumpets. He learned the language, that's more than I can say for a lot of Americans. Got to give it up to him.... :yeshrug:

No its not the same. Mexican culture is largely based around native American/Spanish looks and culture to the point afromexican aren't even seen as mexican. And any Black immigrant who adopts african Américan culture does so because they were raised in African American schools or communities. All the black immigrants I know who were raised around african Americans are VERY different than black immigrants who were raised around whites.

and this nikka is from Compton- so really he just loves mexican women.
that's my point. If I decided to just move to Mexico, I will eventually adopt their culture. His problem was doing it to attract women.

Integration and Cultural Assimilation is what you are describing. You do that to survive.

So I highly doubt you'd start doing all that while living in NYC or something.

No, he did what he had to do to follow his dream

His 'dream' of being a 'mexican in his spirit ?!'

You're really comparing a man who woke up in the 2000's and wanted to live his destiny of being a mexican man and bagging mexican chicks to a black man who lived at a time where blacks had to assimilate to avoid harrassment

He lived in Compton in the USA in the 2000's he did not do this for survival. It was because he felt it in his spirit to be mexican.

It is the CULTURE he has taken.
Which would make it cultural appropriation.

You dont even know what your arguing. Rachel Dolizal or whatever wanted to be a black person, she wore blackface via tanning. This dude enjoys a culture. There are Mexican landmarks named after West African tribes such as the Mandingo, so whos to say he isnt connecting to his roots as West Africans were in Mexico prior to any Spanish person?

This is no diff then Anime nuts, are you saying blacks cant enjoy Anime or their playstations?

If you put a black kid in germany and he is the only black kid he will associate with the culture lf the majority. The guy acknowleges he is a black man and loves Mexican culture, is it weird? Sure. is it wrong? No. Once again there are natives in Mexico blacker than you so race has nothing to do with this, not being from Mexico on the other hand is room for argument.
