And my point is asking, is it really the record or is it a record for a portion of spend.

Spending overall could be down but still a record for strictly online spending on Black Friday.

Spending in our home is just that, larger online but lower than it has been overall since we didn’t leave the house Friday.

Not to mention Black Friday isn’t really even a thing anymore. It’s basically Black late November till Christmas.
Oh my bad. Nothing changed. More people just started shopping online this year than ever.

In 2023, **Americans spent a record $10.8 billion online** on Black Friday, which was a 10.2% increase compared to 2022[43dcd9a7-70db-4a1f-b0ae-981daa162054](https://www.msn.com/en-in/money/topstories/americans-spent-108-billion-online-on-black-friday-a-102-yoy-increase/ar-AA1v4otW?citationMarker=43dcd9a7-70db-4a1f-b0ae-981daa162054 "1"). When combining both online and in-store spending, the total U.S. retail revenue exceeded **$20 billion**[43dcd9a7-70db-4a1f-b0ae-981daa162054](https://capitaloneshopping.com/research/black-friday-statistics/?citationMarker=43dcd9a7-70db-4a1f-b0ae-981daa162054 "2").

For 2024, online Black Friday spending reached **$10.8 billion** again, matching the previous year's record[43dcd9a7-70db-4a1f-b0ae-981daa162054](https://www.msn.com/en-in/money/topstories/americans-spent-108-billion-online-on-black-friday-a-102-yoy-increase/ar-AA1v4otW?citationMarker=43dcd9a7-70db-4a1f-b0ae-981daa162054 "1"). Including in-store purchases, the total revenue was expected to surpass **$20 billion** once more[43dcd9a7-70db-4a1f-b0ae-981daa162054](https://capitaloneshopping.com/research/black-friday-statistics/?citationMarker=43dcd9a7-70db-4a1f-b0ae-981daa162054 "2").

Pre tariff purchases
On the flip side
Canadian government is providing a tax break for 2 months on certain products starting Dec 14

Peoplee believe this is more of a political ploy by the Liberal govt :manny:
It is. Trudeau is losing ground on the country and has been for years. At the same time he knows the conservatives are all nuts. We're in a lose lose situation right now.

The break is gonna help some people immediately, but we're going to feel the back end of it.

He took the Ford gameplan and ran with it. That said, I'd rather vote for him than the conservatives. PP is actually insane and we have a crazy right that often mimics the Trump base.

These grocery prices are outrageous but people are really trying to escape the personal responsibility aspect of finances these last few years. I know too many people complaining about pricing but yet always have the newest, flyest shyt. Are you tight on money or not? Something isn't adding up. I'm actually tight on money, so I decided to fix up my 2010 car instead of buying a 2020+. I'm posting from a Samsung phone that came out in 2019. It's these things that allowed me to continue buying eggs even though it's true they are outrageously priced.

Biden didn't tell your local grocer to increase their prices 50%. These companies decided to use the inflation from COVID as an opportunity to price gouge and they are loving the fact that people blame Biden for it. Now they can escape all accountability.

By the way, only one candidate discussed taking on price gouging and it wasn't the idiot who won.

Maxed out credit cards. Everywhere!
Basically this.

Nothing really even caught my eye this year for spending cash, and I got a retention bonus from the job.:yeshrug:

Biggest purchase I'm about to grab off amazon right now is a fukking digital meat thermometer. :dame:

EDIT: Threw some dumbbells on there, too.
