Honestly, I would be more than a bit upset if my children identified as anything other than primarily black. I know some of you may find this odd...but it's my preference....I want my kids to understand my struggles...and my parents struggles.

My white professors (read 90% of them) don't respect me and automatically think I'm going to flunk their class, they treat me with disdain. I can't work in their labs (they don't want a black guy in their labs) in undergrad to get research experience which is vital to graduate school. Unfortunately most HBC's have poor biology programs so they were never an option (along with the ridiculous tuition prices). The few labs that had black males in ther labs were run by people who weren't actual professors at my school, so I never had a chance to connect.

I got this vibe when they ignore my questions in class and are avoidant when I try to connect with them after lectures. My peers get a different response.

Interesting. Do you think some of it is subconscious because statistically you've been told blacks are supposed to fail, so you think they think what's in the media is true, and thus despite them not even thinking so, you've made the assumption?

I don't think so. My grades are anything but indicative of that mindset. This shyt is real man. fukk. There are very few blacks in the hard sciences. I mean most blacks are encourages to go into business/humanities even if they do make it to college. I think most of my professors( who are older white folks simply may not be used to having to work with a black man or seeing a black man as a man of scientist.

Of course their are minorities that struggle, I hate when people who are privileged enough try and ride their card. If you're eating, and educated you should not be complaining about struggling. It's about as moot as claiming I'm starving because kids in africa are starving...meanwhile I'm eating a delicious slice of pizza.

You've made it to your final grade without failing once. You're a biology major going to grad school, not a cat doing time in state prison for something he didn't do. In about 5-10 years you'll be making more than 80% of people on here. No one is holding you back.
