I still haven't read the book but my copy is on the way. For those that read the book, is the this criticism legit?
Hey @Kitsch can you post them here?

Wouldn't be right without Ms. Jones.
It wouldn't be complete without her c00n ass saying dumb shyt.
But some of the tweets you linked are very disturbing from the AllBlackLivesMatter crew and black feminists.
No it's not legit at all. The whole point of the book is that it's written from the perspective of a memoir meant for his son, from his father TaNehisi Coates, who he witnessed weeping and asking why when Trayvon Martin was not only shot dead, but Zimmerman went free, and the same happening again with Mike Brown and Tamir Rice.
He got the co-sign from a literary legend, Toni Morrison, who is a black woman.
So I'm not a fan of this subset of "pro-black woman" movement. It's fukked up and I don't like it, there tends to be white supremacist undertones when they point the finger at black men not having any institutions and thus abandoning them for white men who have institutions...that were built on the backs of black men and women. And to talk about erasure like black men own institutions that are responsible and complicit for not only the erasure of black women, but black men.
This was my understanding of what the book was about. At the time, I wasn't sure if the people critiquing it had actually read it or were just regurgitating what theey had heard from others.
Yeah, he said so (I'm semi-familiar with her work, @Stacker Pentecost put me on to her via one of her videos).
It's a light read, it was hyped up but that wasn't really his doing. It was media hyping him up. It was good for it was, but definitely not a master piece. As black folks we shouldn't rely on white people to look for our greats and be mad when they're not recognized. That's on us. We should support our greats.
So what do you call AAs then? 2/3 breeds? 70% breeds? at how stupid you have to be to use terms that denigrate not being pure when you're not pure yourself.I don't use the n-word, and biracials are halfbreeds. Sorry, but if your black parent (hopefully they didn't stick around because if they did and you're using words like "nignog" they failed) is an American black then you are MORE than 50% white. Halfbreed while crude is much more fitting than black as a description.
AA have on average 15-18% white admixture. That is nowhere near 50% no matter how much you all want it to be.So what do you call AAs then? 2/3 breeds? 70% breeds? at how stupid you have to be to use terms that denigrate not being pure when you're not pure yourself.
That's not the point. Even if we go with your numbers AAs would still be mixed. How can you denigrate being mixed if you're mixed? 85% isn't a 100%. How'd you like to be referred to as a 4/5 breed? What exactly is the criteria percentage wise to qualify as black anywayAA have on average 15-18% white admixture. That is nowhere near 50% no matter how much you all want it to be.
A supermajority. That's not the point. Even if we go with your numbers AAs would still be mixed. How can you denigrate being mixed if you're mixed? 85% isn't a 100%. How'd you like to be referred to as a 4/5 breed? What exactly is the criteria percentage wise to qualify as black anyway
I asked the question in a certain context for a reason I asked you for a percentage so that you wouldn't deliberately be vague. What percentage qualifies a person of African descent for being black in your opinion?A super majority.
Like I said previously a supermajority.I asked the question in a certain context for a reason I asked you for a percentage so that you wouldn't deliberately be vague. What percentage qualifies a person of African descent for being black in your opinion?
Bet.Like I said previously a supermajority.
