Cliff Huxtables: College student groups based on ethnicity or race could be in peril if the Trump administration’s Department of Education is successful at expanding the Supreme Court’s 2023 ruling regarding race-based affirmative action, the administration’s argument would thus center on applying the Court’s decision to every aspect of campus life.
. . . groups such as the National Association of Diversity Officers in Higher Education, are concerned about what could happen to those groups, including Black fraternities and sororities, which were originally developed in response to segregation and discrimination.

don't see why. their names have no ethnic qualifiers. the organizations are open to all. governing council is the national pan hellenic council - again no ethnic qualifiers. if they go after bglos they would have to use the same bs criteria and go after white organizations because they all mirror each other. the only differences between the orgs are differing demos based off of history.

now orgs like bsu, blsa, naba, acsa....are probably in trouble. which is a travesty.

I thought this as well...

But if there is anything in the black orgs' constitutions which explicitly mention race, I can see them jumping on that. White orgs never had to mention race as a qualifier...they just exercised that understanding in their selection processes when they kept out non-whites.

only thing i can see mentioning race from the bglos are their official history books. the constitutions are legal documents and wouldn't have any verbiage within designating race since the orgs are open to all. for instance, my orgs constitution only uses the language "members".

White orgs never had to mention race as a qualifier...they just exercised that understanding in their selection processes when they kept out non-whites.

i actually wouldn't be so sure about this. it would not surprise me if a number of white fraternities had membership clauses in their constitutions that stipulated their orgs being open to "good christian white men" only. however, those orgs would've amended that language a long time ago. possibly just after the passing of the civil rights act.
