Mario Still the King of the Mushroom Kingdom; Weekend Box Office Results (Apr. 14-16)
The Super Mario Bros. Movie continues to make unbelievable amounts of money. This weekend saw it make $87 million. A 40.6% decline? That's an incredible hold. It's crazy because when I was reading Deadline's box office article on Friday, they had it doing $59 million and then, in the afternoon, it jumped to $72 million. Yesterday morning they had it doing $80 million and then, in the afternoon it jumped up to $87 million.

Mario just had the 9th biggest 2nd weekend ever, just behind Top Gun: Maverick's $90 million. Its $39.1 million Saturday was the 6th biggest 2nd Saturday ever. It also became the 15th fastest movie to gross $300 million. It actually beat out Top Gun: Maverick which was the 17th fastest to cross the plateau. Add it all up and you have a movie that is now made $347.8 million domestically and $677.9 million worldwide.

Russell Crowe's, The Pope's Exorcist debuted in second place with $9.1 million. It's $850K in Thursday previews was actually $50K less than Renfield's $900k. The power of Crowe compelled audiences to like it more than Renfield which is evidenced by its 84% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes to Renfield's 81% score. It was the same overseas as It pulled in $27.4 million. Who knew?

Aight so surely Renfield debuted in 3rd place, right?

That would be John Wick: Chapter 4 with another $7.9 million. It's now crossed $160.1 million domestically. It's at $349.7 million worldwide. Under the table is where s*** gets done and where millions gets made.

Now we finally arrived at Renfield debuting in fourth place with $7.77 million.

The Count just beat out Mike, as Air took 5th place with $7.72 million.

Notables
Toni Collette had herself a nice weekend. She has The Power series on Prime Video and Mafia Mamma debuted in 7th place with $2 million. Wanted to get up in this broad since I saw her in Shaft back in the day.

Violent Night is still in theaters. It just did $4K in its 20th weekend.
