Black Cap Hulks Out & Sees Red; Collects Green on the Weekend we Celebrate the President's who are Dead: President's Day Weekend Box Office Results (Feb. 14-17)
Another Sunday and I'm outside shoveling out of a snowstorm. We must've got 7+ inches here. I think. Where is trained snow spotter,
@Tony D'Amato when ya need him?

In any event, I wasn't about to go to the movies to watch anything, let alone Same Wilson's debut movie as Captain America. But my absence didn't really matter because
Captain America: Brave New World opened with an even
$100M over the holiday weekend, including
$88.5M in the first 3 days.
That's the
24th best opening in MCU history. There have been
35 movies released so far, all of which have opened at number 1. The fourth
Captain America movie is, fittingly, the fourth biggest President's Day Weekend opening, behind:
- Black Panther: $242.1M

- Deadpool: $152.1M
- Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania: $120.3M
So
Brave New World is third best MCU President's Day Weekend opening and the fourth best Marvel President's Day opening weekend. Though, if we want to get technical, it would be the fourth best MCU President's Day opening as
Deadpool is now cannon through the multiverse and Disney's purchase of 21st Century Fox.
It is the fourth best opening of the non $100M 3-day openings in the MCU, $4M behind
Spider-Man: Far From Home's $92.5M, a movie which went on to make
$391.3M domestically and
$1.1B globally. That's good company for the new Cap. However, it's a the first movie where Cap has not opened better than his previous movie:
- The First Avenger: $65M
- Winter Soldier: $95M
- Civil War: $179.1M
- Brave New World: $88.5M
There was nowhere to go but down after
Civil War, which was essentially
Avengers 2.5. Just gotta hope that Disney doesn't say that Black Cap is the root of the problem in what could be the beginning of a downward trend for the franchise.
The
B- CinemaScore certainly won't help and may mean bad legs. Audiences only gave
Ant-Man: Quantumania a
B. That movie barely doubled its
$106.1M opening weekend and finished with
$214.5M. And the 3rd Ant-Man is probably the best comp as it was also released on President's Day Weekend and was well into its franchise. Can
Brave New World outperform that disappointment?
One thing is for certain, it has outperformed
The Marvels. The MCU's worst only managed a total domestic cume of
$84.5M, which
Brave New World beat. Its
$192.4M global opening almost beat
The Marvel's $199.7M global total.
Paddington is back for his third outing, with
Paddington in Peru opening in 2nd place with
$16M. The
$13M 3-day is the second best opening in the franchise, ahead of
Paddington 2's $11M but behind
Paddington's $18.9M. Thank God for the rest of the world chipping in
$115.8M, helping to take the sting out of that opening and $75.3M budget.
Heart Eyes had an incredible second weekend, as its
10M (
$11.1M 4-day) was 20% more than it's
$8.3M opening. That's unheard of for a horror movie.
Dog Man's reign is over but it still did well with
$12.5M over the holiday weekend. Despite being a terrible weekday performer, it's up to
$69.5M.
Fifth place goes to the Chinese animated
Ne Zha 2 with
$8.3M. This movie has already grossed
$1B in China
