I lived in the states as a kid but still come back to visit every few years. I was just in Florida in December. Trust me, AAs (especially women) love my accent and brothas think it sounds cool/different but most of the time I get respect. They assume I'm American until I start speaking and then get nicer/curious...and no I don't sound like Jeffrey, I've got a more deep 'urban' accent. Many movements/idealogies/dialects are borrowed from other ethnic groups at times so what? Is this supposed to denote 'superiority"?They then flip it and make it into something unique for themselves.
