My Murder

A chance meeting with a girl leads to murder as a teenage boy is engulfed by a web of lies in this innovative and gripping factual drama. My Murder tells the true story of Shakilus Townsend, a 16-year-old boy who was led to his death by the 15-year-old he thought of as his girlfriend, in what became known as the honey trap killing.

'Second Coming' USA distribution rights

Film Movement has acquired USA distribution rights to award-winning British playwright Debbie Tucker Green’s feature film directorial debut, "Second Coming," and has set a 2016 release for it (no specific date given yet).

Green’s "Second Coming" has a premise that, religious or not, will probably pique your interest. That it’s set in present day London and that the family at the centre of the story is black, was another reason for me to get excited. Indeed, it was a delight to see a black family – a NORMAL – black family, portrayed on screen. No drugs, no knives, no guns… No drama. And therein lies the problem.

Jax, played admirably by Nadine Marshall, has a dilemma. A dilemma the proportions of which you don’t really get too many clues about. Her husband, Mark, played by Idris Elba, is as perfect a husband as any woman could want. Her son, JJ (Kai Francis-Lewis) is a sweet-natured, sensitive, and intuitive child. A better realistic model of a black family you couldn’t find. However, all is not well in paradise, or indeed on earth, especially not in this particular household. Jax is in turmoil, albeit mostly internalised, leaving her husband frustrated, and her friends and family of origin knowing that something’s amiss, but waiting for her to announce her news.

Second Coming" opens on June 5th in the UK via Film4.

Film4 has debuted a first trailer:

My bad. Did the killing change the community/youth

Na, during that time alot of stabbings were happening. It didn't really have an affect

it mostly got media attention under the "honey trap" headline, where the media put their own fantasy spin on it.

The only killings that change things in the UK is if a white person dies, when a young black guy kills a white kid everyones up in arms, but if a black kid dies its more like "he shouldn't of been doing anything naughty"

The Perfect Guy

Michael Ealy goes dark again! Coming off his portrayal as a serial killer with a killer smile in Fox's series "The Following" (which was unfortunately canceled and won't be returning next season), in the Sony/Screen Gems thriller, "The Perfect Guy," Ealy plays an all-too-perfect guy who initially wins over Sanaa Lathan, a woman recently separated from her previous partner, played by Morris Chestnut, who just isn't ready to give her all that she wants from a mate.

A September 2015 release date is eyed.

Open Road has set a June 19 release date for Rick Famuyiwa's "Dope," which features Zoë Kravitz, Keith Stanfield, Kimberly Elise, rap stars A$AP Rocky and Tyga who all appear in the film by Famuyiwa ("The Wood," "Brown Sugar," "Our Family Wedding"), which is described as a coming of age story about geeks growing up in Inglewood, California, trying to avoid gangs, drugs, and crime.

Starring Shameik Moore, Tony Revolori and Kiersey Clemons, the film follows a trio of best friends who are also in their own hip hop – punk band.

The official synopsis reads: "Malcolm is a high school geek with a high-top fade, carefully navigating life in The Bottoms, one of the toughest neighborhoods in Inglewood, California. He and his fellow outcasts share a voracious appreciation for all things '90s hip-hop, opting to sport Cross-Colors and Z. Cavariccis at the risk of being clowned at school. He dreams of attending Harvard, but first he has to make it home every day. When a drug dealer takes a shine to Malcolm and invites him to his birthday party, Malcolm’s crew is swirled into a hilarious blender of offbeat characters and bad choices where redemption can only be found in Bitcoin."

Significant Productions’ Forest Whitaker and Nina Yang Bongiovi ("Fruitvale Station") are producers of the film, which features original music by Pharrell Williams.

About That"

According to the synopsis for his latest short film, "About That," L.A.-based actor/filmmaker Damien D. Smith describes his film this way: “Summer (played by Crystal Cotton) and Jonathan (played by Smith himself) are in love, but love isn't enough for some people. Their relationship can only be described as pure bliss. Unfortunately, the world is uncomfortable with the pair and a series of events start to hint at Jonathan's mental stability."

But that does not tell the whole story, and I don’t want to give anything away, but “About That” is more than just a love story. It is also a troubling but poignant film about the toll that mental illness can take, not only on an individual, but also on their friends and family.

"About That" is currently touring the film festival circuit, so keep an eye out for it.

“In Search of the Black Knight”

filmmaker Tamarat Makonnen's witty and definitely more uplifting take on the neverending and perplexing issue in his documentary film “In Search of the Black Knight”.

As the filmmaker says: “The shortage of black men to women is a pretty hot topic in many circles. I thought it would be great to address the issue, but from a humorous perspective…I really wanted to make sure that it was both thought-provoking and entertaining. Combining professional advice, street interviews and sketch comedy helped to bring that balance.”

As for Makonnen he has had an extensive career as a director with music videos and EPKs for several artists and the feature film drama “Dreams and Shadows”. He has also recently ventured in the web series world directing episodes of the series “The Unwritten Rules”.

Now after playing the film festival circuit last year In Search of the Black Knight is available now on DVD through Amazon and also on VOD on Amazon Instant Video and Vimeo On Demand.
