Blame the other races for not support black business. We can buy from them but they won't buy from us.

True, but it was done successfully in Tulsa in the early 1900s before them CACs got jealous & burned it to the ground

SMH nikkas call themselves hustlers, but not know the concept of residual income or wealth. Spending excessively is a feminine trait, anyway.

Buying power doesn't mean anything UNLESS you boycott something.

This is why they killed MLK. The boycots worked, but it still kept money in white hands. He realized integration failed. It only worked on a social level. It didnt help us economically. It disintegrated us from a community into an individualistic mindset amongst a white society.

The title buying power is funny because that isn't power. What power is it if the money we spend doesn't circulate back into our structures? This society is built upon power/control and wealth. We dont own anything and control nothing. We simply consume and produce nothing. Even if we did, a lot of us are so brainwashed that we wouldnt even fukk with something black owned. We're the first to shyt on each other. It can change though. If we decided to come together and get on the same wavelength, we'd be moving in the right direction. But that starts with awareness.

“What the recession did to Black consumers’ buying habits was to give them a reason to re-evaluate how they spent billions of dollars,” said Ken Smikle, president of Target Market News and editor of the report.

“Before tight economic times, many companies were in the habit of taking their loyalty — especially to top brands — for granted. That changed during the downturn. Price became a bigger factor driving purchasing decisions. Now brands have to earn the loyalty of Black consumers all over again, and Black consumers are asking brands, ‘what have you done for me lately.’”

Besides the economy, another factor causing a shift in the loyalty Black consumers is social media and increased access to business information. The new edition of The Buying Power of Black America debuts a section detailing the advertising dollars spent by major companies in Black media. It also compares the ad spending of companies by categories.

Great article, I like how they broke it down a little bit:

This 105-page report breaks down how much of Black consumers’ $836 billion in income during 2011 was spent on clothing, entertainment, food, beverages, toys, consumer technology, cosmetics, autos, travel and dozens of other categories.

What's interesting is that none of those categories really have any value that appreciates, it's all depreciating. Nothing was said about investments, savings, etc & that's what we need to do more as a culture.

This has been known for a few decades now. I believe it was common knowledge at some point that black americans collectively had the purchasing power equal to the 14th largest nation in the world.

And this idea that the money should be more wisely spent and invested still hasn't resonated.

Black folks are simply comfortable being a consuming culture rather than a producing one

It is what it is.

Not surprising. Niccas was just debating whether or not buying $700 sneakers was a good idea. :Shump:

That kind of stupidity would almost be unbelievable, if I didn't witness it daily.

Only when one feels powerless do they need to control. People control to get what they want and they feel like that can only happen through manipulation and control. Either that or, they fear to lose the control. So control is always dealing with negative emotions: fear (of losing something), desperation (to get something)...

Then negative emotions such as hate, anger, jealousy, or sadness happens when we feel that we couldn't control to get what we want.

Letting go thoughts of lack and staying with thoughts of Satisfaction (or perfection) will help loosen the grip of needing to control all others for self-fulfillment.

The TRUE self feels whole, complete, satisfied.
The FALSE self feels separate, incomplete, unsatisfied needing to always seek and control.
