am once again blown away by another Billy Woods project. I expected this to be the case because Hiding Places was my favorite of his up to this point, but I really admire the lighter tone (albeit still very sardonic) of this record compared to the rest of his catalog, which in no way diminishes the potency of his observations and storytelling.
The subject matter of songs like Red Dust from Woods' previous albums provides an emotional nucleus that inherently lends itself to compelling storytelling, but I feel it takes an even defter hand as a writer to take a more mundane topic like touring and create something so poetic
Segal's production here is also fairly reserved compared to Hiding Place but no less compelling, it reminds me of the LA beat scene from the early 2010s particularly stuff like Shlohmo's Bad Vibes but with more of a bittersweet quality
