You lost me right there.....Trendy is not innovative.....There were touch screen capacitive phones for phones at least a decade before the Iphone dropped....

Apple made the package prettier and added multi touch tech and voila....Everyone is calling them innovative, when its mostly marketing and business savvy....The phone hasn't had any major changes in 6 years....

Pushing for cheaper hardware so you can design software that fits any platform is innovative........

Google is an innovative company, I'll give you that......

M$ will be here long after Apple....Trust Me
ms being here longer than apple doesn't mean they're innovative. intel i can sort of give them innovation against amd but not ms against apple. ms actually has been a complete failure when it comes to innovation. apple on the other hand actually has been too much on trying to patent their innovation and it's biting them.

innovation is in open source. which is totally against microsoft's business practices. microsoft is a business and good at it. and bill gates is the perfect snake to head it. along with their lawyers.

No software company that makes money off its OS is going to be open source...Don't give me that b.s. about Linux because they are not a player in the game.....

Apples' OSs for platform computing are 3 times more locked down than windows.....Windows has always been easily customizable as a whole...

Not really......If you have a product or invention, just patent it and don't sell the rights to it....Its easier said than done, but if you want to use your invention solely for the good of mankind, you can definitely make sure it happens, at least while you're still alive

i brought up linux cause we were talkin about innovation and a platform open for innovation.
apple is locked by their do their innovation in house unlike microsoft which doesn't seem to do anything. they've been repackaging the same o.s for over 10 years.

and speaking of marketing and brainwashing users ms could be a major player just by marketing their junk. but ms is just as bad in marketing their own software. hotmail failed, their inhouse myspace/facebook failed. so many of their stuff fails cause they just lack marketing. only thing they've really poured money to deny failure is xbox. they've finally got on phones now. apple has been doing and mastered the phone game for years now. what we're seeing now has been the ms culture since the beginning. they don't bring anything new first. apple was even had the the first consumer o.s with x64 platform. even though they'd been other os's that supported x64 before both of them.

as much money as ms has you'd think they'd be first in almost everything but that's not the case. innovation is not synonymous with microsoft.

most of these large companies (ms, apple, google, etc) don't really innovate anymore though. r&d is expensive and in many cases is a misnomer since they spend a good portion of that money buying up technology and swallowing smaller companies that really are innovating. sometimes this is done to integrate it into their product line or to keep competitors from getting hold of ideas that could put a severe dent in their market share.

i think you have a slightly shortsighted view of innovation. in many cases innovation is stuff you just cannot see or touch.

take ms for example. they spend more than anyone else on r&d by far, but that doesn't always turn into innovation we can see and touch. the "invisible innovation" for example is stuff like providing one sw installation that supports multiple hardware platforms, across multiple software versions, multiple off the shelf applications, backwards compatibility for sw and hw, a level of security for all the aforementioned, energy efficiency, cross platform integration, etc....all while keeping a palatable price point (relative to competitors). easy to take that for granted since we don't see it. that's not a defense of ms, because they do more "acquisition innovation" than actual in house innovation, but it's just an example of how expansive innovation really is when you look past the "shiny and new" perception of innovation.

It's because most of the super-rich didn't earn most of their wealth. Gates is a perfect example. He used everything but actual innovation- family connections/nepotism, insider info, ripping off ideas from smaller companies and superior products- to get rich. He was consistently following, rather than leading, tech innovation, and the more the company grew, the more he was able to exploit those processes. The monopoly of Microsoft was a disgrace no matter how you slice it.

This is a perfect example of Capitalism rewarding rent-seeking behavior instead of actual innovation, btw.

fukking pathetic post.
