judging from that list, hollywood spends way too much money on period films. If you making a film set in horse and buggy times or older, you don't need to be spending over 100 million dollars on the production.
Other ones seem to just be shytty films that they gambled on and lost.
They cost money because the period needs to look similar to that time. Set designs and construction, costumes, makeup, filming outside the States (most of the time).

But a successful period piece film is rare. There’s a huge gap between Gladiator and The Last Duel. :skip:

Not a mega fan but I do love it :russ:while acknowledging it’s all over the damn place but I think that’s why. There’s no other flick like Hudson hawk and there never will be. For better or worse
