Yeah
J. Cole is my man but it might be like I expected, Sean might've got him this time, solid 4 mics.
Still need some more time with it but it's cohesive and a lot of nice shyt. It has like 2 uninspired turnt up songs though but two of the bonus songs could easily replace those.
I agree

I feel like sean trumped COLE and Drake and I def didn't expect it

Dudes are in denial about this too.
:mjlol:

That's the sad part
Its a matter of opinion though. I personally feel like Cole had the best album out of the three, even if it wasnt all that. Drake and Big Sean seem to be on a similar wavelength in terms of their content and production choices with these releases. Cole's album sounds a bit more genuine and tackles a few concepts, more of an everyday struggle type of theme.

I think Sean's mic persona is polarizing. Im almost 30 and I can not rock to his shyt at all. It feels juvenile. And unless he's running around with killers and living in actual squalor, Im not trying to hear ig'nant shyt from him. Drake was normally more of an "old soul" type but he seems to have left that by the wayside on his latest tape. Cole, as boring as he can be, has a message to his music and seems more in control of his creative process.

Cole's album doesn't sound as good as this mainly because Cole is too hands on. He's not a good singer, yet he chose to sing all over that album. This album is easily better produced... and lyrically, I fukk with more bars on this album than J. Cole's album.

I'll be 30 this year, and I don't think this album sounds juvenile at all. That Wet Dreamz song that Cole has though? Beyond juvenile... and Cole is the same age as us.

I honestly was disappointed with Cole's album because I thought he was going to really not hold back. I thought he was going to drop something powerful in relation to the recent events in this country at the time it released. All we got was more of the same Cole on the same Cole production, with basic Cole lyrics and nothing really sticking out. People were saying that that album had his best "deep" songs on there, but I beg to differ... Cole had deeper songs on his 1st album and some of his mixtapes than what he gave us on FHD

Heres my thing. I like the album and think its much better then HOF(and it may be better then his first but let me give it a few more mentions) But the thing with Sean is he has no presence at all. Only stand out songs that he holds my attention is Paradise and win some lose some. Every other song he gets washed, either by features(and that includes R&B singers) or carried by production. IDK. Sean is just like Drake. Uninteresting with no true backstory or charisma

Drake is a more sophisticated artist tho. Even if he raps mostly about girls, haters and the perils of fame, he laces his shyt with little details and paint a picture. It also helps that him and 40 carved an entire lane for themselves and cultivated a new sound. Theres a lot of homage paid to 90s RnB, and there's usually a moody vibe to it. Its special, and its what separates Drake from his contemporaries is his artistic vision. Maybe he's tired of being heralded in the pop realm, and is now the "6 God", repping Toronto hoods 24/7, and every song on the new tape sounds like a variation of "Started From The Bottom" which was his first true venture into that style. He's trying to spearhead a movement and I respect that, but its like he tossed his content and sound into the bushes in favor of a darker, more simplistic "street" sound so he can be an "ambassador" to younger Toronto talent on the come-up.

Sean did the swag rap thing with Wiz n them, then tried to make a College Dropout type debut, then wanted to be the "Detroit playa", and now he's got Mike Will, DJ Mustard and Roc Nation in his corner. There's nothing really unique going on and he'll prolly continue to adapt to the times and play catch-up. He's got some funny bars here and there, but I cant pit him against Cole, Big Krit and Drake off general principle. He's more of a Tyga, Wiz, ASAP Rocky type lane

solid points. i really, really wanted to love FHD. Im in the same age bracket as yall and I remember when the warm up came out and I was in undergrad. I was SO into Cole. Like kid could do no wrong. I remember the anticipation of him being featured on a track, knowing that he was gonna drop a gem of a line and body the feature. Similarly, I remember the epic dissapointment that was Sideline Story. Because I was a Cole Fan and SS got extra spins it managed to grow on me and a lot of those tracks therefore have nostalgic value.

Ive been trying to do the same with FHD and it just doesn't get me excited. I feel like Cole has really dumbed down his lyrics and they are no longer witty or awe-inducing. The production on FHD, even if it generally requires to be in a certain mood, is pretty medicore to me. I listened to interview Cole had about the loudness war and it gave me some perspective on the music and it caused me to listen more closely to the tape. Though I respect the position he is trying to hold in hip hop and the message he is trying to get across, I personally don't think he is living up to his full potential. I think Cole on the rise, the hunger, the kid that went to college just to snag a deal from Jay Z was far better rapper than Cole the not so informed social/activist rapper.

I hate to admit but DSP I fukked with instantly and vibed with immediately. Not to mention Big Sean came with BARS. I mean legit dope ass bars and flows and cadences. shyt where youre like, got damn this nikka spent a lot of time on this shyt. His bars on this shyt are intricate as hell. Hes also distinguished himself as an artisit with his sort of syncopated flow on beats that no one else really does in the game.

But yeah I think for me its DSP >>> FHD. Either way 2015 bout to be a goat year for hip hop. :mjcry:

after this album nobody can be taken seriously stating that he is in a group with Wiz or Tyga. Wiz has dropped weed plate after weedplate and tyga needs no further elaboration

i would agree he is below drake j cole and kendrick but that is based on album sales and popularity only. when it comes to rapping and flow(s) he is arguably better than all of them but kendrick

on j cole, ive said before i think hes a good artist. i poke fun at him tho cause his stans are real sensitive. but he got bars and good songs but he never steps outside of his zone. you know you getting a solid project whenever he drop but he need to change it up to ascend. like kanye, hate him or love him, no album sounds like the last.

black love, unity, and music
have 60% of your album be features brehs :mjlol:

have every artist on your album be better than you brehs :mjlol:

get murdered on your own song consistantly on your own album brehs :mjlol:
These statements are all true, however, that doesn't prevent this from being a good album. I'll be jamming this for a minute. It's definitely a nice mental break from the intellectual onslaught that is Tetsuo and Youth. This, that new Neyo, the new drake, and that lupe are creating a nice rotation for me.

Yeah bro, I agree with this post 100%

FHD maybe be more consistent than his previous 1st 2 albums but his SS and BS both had higher highs than what's on FHD.

And Sean dropped some bars that were far more "militant" than anything Cole said on his album. Breh said this on the intro...

"...I'm thinking about becoming a cop so I can murk off some nikkas 1 by 1 off legally"

On Stay Down...
"Yeah, tryna get that hotel money
But you know them crackers ain't gonna let you get the Ritz

They ain't gonna let you get the fountain in the front with the fist
They gonna give you courtside at the Clips"

:whoo:

That stuck with me more than that halfsteppin' ass line Cole pulled about the Grammy's. And Sean was droppin' gems throughout the entire album over dope production.
