I think anybody who has problems with a redundant catalog haven't realized/accepted it's just the niche era. You're holdovers from that era where everyone was trying to do too much on their albums (hence very few classics) and got brainwashed into thinking versatility was a necessity..mainly because labels demanded you touch different bases with every single and you ate that up.
In reality very few rappers are actually good at any more than say 2 styles/subject matters/etc., and those people that are are legends. Maybe Krit isn't going to be a legend, OK...everybody can't be batman but he makes good music.
With everyone and their mama rappin nowadays you don't need to zone out and listen to any one person for 2 hours, so why hold that against a guy? This isn't the era where you spent 15 dollars on a CD and only carry so many with you out the door every day (if you're not driving)..this is the Ipod era, and artists are making shyt accordingly.
It's a
good thing. Guys stick to their strengths and you like their music for the mood you're in then move onto something else...there's truly something for everybody, not everybody trying to be everything and only a few people succeeding at it.
Most of the people in here who don't like Krit are probably fans of a one dimensional artist and see no problem with their discography, maybe Krit's sleepy/introspective style just isn't for your ears.
I think Hip Hop may be the only art form where an artist gets flak for sticking to his strengths and not reaching and trying to create something else for the sake of being called versatile. I doubt people were like "Van Gogh is dope, but he really needs to make some sculptures sometimes"
