Miami is getting an awful lot of 3 star recruits. It's not bad. But they're not getting enough 4 and 5s. What's it gonna take to elevate?

they needed OL and arent sure about Slaton or Herbert, so i guess they may have reached a bit. the others that are 3* on most sites (Jennings/Gibson/Carter/Hillery) pass the eye test to me. guys like Jon Ford and Jonathan Garvin committed early and would be 4* if they were available

Plantation (Fla.) American Heritage OL Kai-Leon Herbert and Tedarrell Slaton remain high priorities for the Hurricanes.

And UM continues to make a big push for both.

Heritage line coach Travis Spiva says he's talking with UM coach Mike Rumph "pretty often," and of course he's in constant contact with both top linemen.

Spiva says Herbert and Slaton have set up Cane official visits together for the weekend of Jan. 21

"Both of them talk to Mike Rumph all the time, know the situation at Miami, that they can play early there," Spiva said. "It's more the fit, the feel there that they have to see."

Herbert already feels he fits at Michigan, where he committed. And while Spiva says Herbert is "pretty solid" in his commitment, with the visit he's leaving the door open for the Canes.

Slaton, meanwhile, is taking an open view to recruiting. Spiva says it won't surprise him if it's a signing day announcement for Slaton.

"It's open for Tedarrell," Spiva said. "He hasn't shown anything, hasn't shown any lean to anything yet."

Spiva says both players are impressed with how UM coaches are recruiting them, and that it ultimately will come down to the comfort level at the school.

"They love the coaches, the players at Miami and the idea of staying close (to home), the playing time (opportunity)," Spiva said. "But Miami has to match the feeling they get when they go other places."

-Hollomon gets his in-house tomm, havent heard much about Devonta Smith lately i wouldnt count on him.

Man I don't pretend to know more than scouts but I was watching video of Slaton and he's a big boy for sure...but I wish I saw more of a mean streak in him.

@SoulController

Don't get me wrong. He'd be a great addition.

i agree, hes more skilled than mean which is probably better long-term. thought that about decommitted (still pursued) CB prospect Brian Edwards. hes skilled, awesome frame, but he dont hit yet, played alot of S too

recruiting sites are clownish sometimes, look at Mike Pinckney. did he look 3*? dude was a savage from the second he stepped on the field, not 1 site had him higher than a 3. Ed Reed was a 2*, sometimes you just gotta trust the coaches. alot of times the out of state HC's will take a 4* kid that none of the Big 3 offered. why? they saw him in person and decided to pass. Latavious Brini is a 4 and none of the Big 3 have offered him

yea man, LSU didnt offer him only other D1 offer was local Tulane i believe. Sean Taylor was a 3 (weird location/unscouted), Vilma was unranked, we have an All Big East team full of stories like that. yea sometimes you reach, but i think the class fills out nicely and ends up in the 9-12 range. long committed guys like Perry, Donaldson and Bandy should be 5 imo but that doesnt sell clicks

im REAL big on Perry. those other 2 wont be a factor, if Kaaya leaves it will open comp between Rosier/Perry/Allison and Weldon. N'Kosi needs work, but he runs like a deer and can put deep throws on a dime. Miami has never had a QB recruit like him
