Cast two votes. Pick one villain and one actor.

In your opinion which was the better villain?

The Joker

...or Killmonger

Forgetting your favorite villain out of the two, which actor gave the better performance as the villain?

Discuss why.

Killmonger wasn't a villian though

I mostly agree with his political views. Most black people will. The way he was written was a good way of putting the truth out there but in a way that could receive a big budget.

I disagree that he wasn’t a villain. He was a threat to T’Challa and Wakanda. He had no contingency plan (at least not stated) for the entire world turning its firepower in one direction: Wakanda. In a world where Tony Stark agrees with the Sakovia Accords and fought his own teammates to defend his political ideologies, Wakanda would be taking on MANY advance weapons systems and super heroes in that fight, which would leave Wakanda decimated with no allies to assist.

Joker is a better villain

Killmonger motivation was incredible and backstory was well done but at the end of the day he tried to force his way to the throne and it worked temporarily. He didn’t change everything black panther st the end, opened up their borders because heir king didn’t want to make the same mistakes as past Kings and wants to help the world. A the end of dark knight, joker has corrupted the mayor and influenced ever more terrorism in Gotham and likely continued after his capture. Plus killmonger was excellent and is the greatest villain in a marvel film but he still can’t touch the nuisance and lunacy of the joker. Killmonger was more akin to clubber Lang then joker. Real motivation, letting his hatred lead him to success but then his same hatred leading to him losing it all so quickly.

Joker had a goal that he wanted Batman to kill him to flip his entire ideology on its head.

As he said there are 2 billion of us out there.

True, but armed with weapons traceable to Wakanda (only source of vibranium), forgetting the c00n factor (snitches and turncoats) and a mostly untrained civilian 2 billion. His plan was smart but the execution was rushed.

Imagine your neighborhood idiot trying to sell the weapons rather than use them or going head up against Daredevil or worse Iron Legion (Iron Man’s drone army) with just a cannon. He’d get washed. Killmonger needed a trained army to succeed.

Does the fact that we got a backstory for Killmonger slightly elevate him above the Joker and make him more believable though?

They both are believable in their perspective worlds. Joker gave us backstorys but because his character is the joker and he’s insane we aren’t allowed to trust what he was saying. We were sympathetic of killmonger even t challa was. That’s why joker was a better villain. There was no other reason to root for joker because he was evil to the core. Killmonger was a radical who had potential to be a hero in his own right. I will say though killmonger as a character is more fleshed out and believable then joker but heath acted his role so much better then mbj who also was fantastic

Put it like his
Killmonger was a better character on screen
Joker was a better villain
Mbj was the best marvel villain
Heath ledger is still the best acting performance in a hero movie

I agree to disagree. Not being a prisoner of the moment, but Killmonger resonates better with me as a villain, when considering the current social and political climate. The Joker would make the nightly news as a “disturbed and troubled man with psychological issues” while Killmonger would be labeled “ungrateful former soldier turned terrorist and black identity extremist”.

Do I personally see his views as villainous? No. But that’s the genius of his character and the writing. He divides the audience right down the middle. The best villain is the one half the audience will root for. Whole essays can be written on Killmonger’s ideology.

Joker was before this wave of lone wolf and white terrorist domestically killing people and kids every week
He even says it in dark knight “a bus full of soldiers blows up and there’s nothing but you threaten a hospital or a group of school children and everyone goes crazy”
It was ahead of the curve the same way killmonger is mimicking the common black militant uprising in the social media world
