Better player: Jimmy Butler or Iman Shumpert

I remember when Ruben Patterson was known as the Kobe stopper. Those were the days (and I HATE this smiley. Sadly I couldn't use another one to convey my thought)

He's getting his starter's minutes. He's gonna have a target on his back every night now. He can't sneak up on people this year. He's capable, so let's just see now shall we?

Stop it with all this 'can we wait for a while longer before crowning him' talk.

That shyt would fly if Shump wasn't in the same boat as Butler (but he is), and I mean you could use that same Patterson argument on Shump too, it ain't like he's been in the game for a minute or proved he has more defensive sustainability than Butler has. Butler got starters minutes at the back end of the season and was locking dudes up left right and center; playoffs he got starters minutes and he was locking dudes up. He even had 'bron falling back too, all throughout the Heat series. He don't have to prove anymore on man-to-man defense to be on this fictitious level of where you think Shump is supposedly at - because he's shown he's just as capable with the man-to-man D..... if not more.

Butler was a defensive monster last year and he's bigger than Shump too. I don't know what BX is arguing here. Butler is much better offensively too.

Butlers numbers as a starter last year in combination with his defense give him the edge, he seems to have a more rounded offensive game and their defense is comparable.

The difference for me is

1. naturally I'm gonna catch more Shumpert games (I'll probably catch a game at Chicago at some point so I'll get to see Butler live since his Marquette days)

2. We didn't see Shump at 100% capability last season based on him coming back from the ACL injury and while he still looked like crap on offense initially, the defense wasn't as bad as I thought it would be.

Butler has better Defense especially in the post and finishing moves at the basket.

Shump got more hops though, rips you clean on the perimeter

Imam Shumpert is the most overrated player in the league.

Butler, for his position, is an elite rebounder. He is also exceptionally good at getting to the line and is a great finisher. He was a very good 3 point shooter last season as well.

Shump is a great man defender but so is Butler. Ive seen Jimmy guard Kobe, Melo, and Bron extremely effectively now. That shyt is impressive as hell. I think they are a wash defensively but could see people going either way.




I would definitely go Butler, much more offensive potential.
