DBD > HBK. Bryan has gone from an indy submission wrestler to getting buried by the very company that signed him, up through midcard runs, fluke WHC victories and losses - he went from a top heel to the most undeniable babyface in the whole company, to the point where people booed Rey Mysterio for not being Daniel Bryan. Think about that. Rey fukking Mysterio Jr. came out at the end of the rumble and people booed.
The fact that he refused to be denied and fought to come back to wrestling after his retirement, just to willfully throw out all the nostalgia love he would have gotten to go on another heel run, and then managed to get everyone back all over again? Pssh.

I get it, folks love their HBK, but Bryan has run the whole pro-wrestling gamut as a performer, and went from a guy they believed would never get over, who couldn't talk and who couldn't wrestle a compelling match... to anchoring programs with his promos, moving Cena-level merchandise, and actually managing to have the most compelling Fiend match we've had so far... he turned chicken shyt into chicken salad with Bray more than anyone else has.

Nostalgia is cool and all, but if I'm picking one of the two in their prime to anchor a program against someone I don't want buried... I'm taking Bryan 10/10.

Plus. Bryan gets the nod off the strength of him going to bat for Kofi and working his ass off to make that WM win what it was. HBK mighta superkicked Shelton and they run that in packages all the time, but Bryan went out there, committed to being booed, and worked to make Kofi the hero and went out in WM looking at the lights to give us that image of Kofi and his family with the shirts and the belt.

Daniel Bryan is great , not taking that away from him , but is he an icon? Does he move the needle and trigger people the GOAT?
HBK created this man from clay.

HBK was a scumbag who refused to drop titles by being beaten cleanly.
DB went out of his way to make people who beat him stars.

(Also, this will be controversial, but... Bryan Danielson in his prime is a technically superior wrestler than Michael Hickenbottom in his prime, and it isn't actually close at all.)
