This is false.

Nas was already halfway finished with Stillmatic before the shyt TRULY popped off with Jay. He already was "back on his shyt" during QB's Finest. Nas wasn't even originally going to respond but Jungle and his QB brethren basically forced him too.

Nas's 2001 would be the equivalent of if Drake sent a diss towards Kendrick Lamar, and K.Dot not only dropped a response, but that response was so potent that it made Drake lose his entire cool and persona live on, let's say The Breakfast Club. On top of that Kendrick goes to war with Game, Ab-Soul, and Jay Rock; STILL comes out on top AND manages to drop a fire album. Accomplishing all of that in the final few months of a year is an incredible feat.

THATS what Nas did in 01. He completely pulled Jay-Z's card. Jay fukking Z. One of the GREATEST Mc's of ALL TIME, was shook by Ether and had no response but to diss a woman and a child. He also went at it with Prodigy, a legendary lyricist. Cormega, a true underground icon. And Nature, who is nothing to sneeze at. He sonned them. Dropped an incredible album, and all of this within two months.

That's a fukking MVP homie.

And this is no shade to Jay-Z or The Blueprint, which is a certified classic. You will NEVER hear me utter that Blueprint isn't a top shelf masterpiece. But Nas owned him, and Hip Hop that year.
:wow:
I'm just gonna sit back and let @Ziggiy take it from here because nobody can rebut any of this :wow:
I'm lying I'm gonna keep posting my normal bullshyt :russ:

:mindblown::mindblown::mindblown:

STOP this nonsense

Are we going to act like Jay Z the blueprint didn't drop on the most historical day in the history of this country yet he still was able to push a half 1 million in da 1st week

I love Nas in all, but dat blueprint album gave a lotta nikkaz or I'll just say hip hop headz in general from da East Coast specifically New Yorkers an escape from reality

Now you're giving Jay credit for the feelings associated with 9/11? :russ:

Nope. You can't be a huge bad boy fan and then turn around and claim IWW was meh.
Unless I'm missing something here.

Breh it's a diss song & yes it's a bit exaggerated

IWW was a great album
but in dat era (5 year span '93-'97) it's not considered a top 25 among hip hop headz who felt nas sold out by switching his style too the more mafiaso/player shyt
Vald TV had this discussion a few times with his guest

but with the time it became a classic. funny reasonable doubt became a classic overtime because Jay said so when at the time it dropped it was a good album nothing more but iww is only judge by the 96 feeling (knowing that the album made Nas a superstar)

This is the first official thread for a series I'll call 'Best Rapper Alive'. Basically, in this thread (http://www.thecoli.com/threads/revi...list-how-can-we-make-it-more-accurate.465427/), I discussed Complex's article that covered this very issue.

I thought we'd do a Coli spin on things and vote for who we believe to be the rap MVP of each year. I will be going from 1985-2015 but the threads won't be made in ascending or descending order. Just random.

Basically, I will be listing contenders as poll options for MVP of any given year and y'all get one vote to vote for your MVP.

POINT SYSTEM
I will only reward the top 5 finishers of each poll.

1st place = 10 points
2nd place = 5 points
3rd place = 3 points
4th place = 2 points
5th place = 1 point

The reason the remaining 4 places matter is because when all is said and done, I'll be tallying up points to see who finishes in the top 10 ever. This is done to reward consistent top 5 placers in multiple years even if they never won the MVP for one given year.

CONTENDER PRE-REQUISITES
There's only one real pre-requisite. You must have a project released in that year (whether an album, mixtape, EP or similar). This matters more to me than it does to you guys since I'm making the poll options, but just so y'all know this is the angle I'm coming from. Snoop Dogg cannot be in contention for 1995 for example.

As for groups and duos, if there's a standout member I will put them for contention if I deem them worthy enough e.g. Andre 3000 for 1998 or Ice Cube for 1988.

As for number of contenders per thread, it will depend on the year. A year like 1994 will likely have 10-15 contenders (max poll option is 15), but for 1985 it could be 5-6 only.

If your desired contender for any year is not one of the poll options and you plan to vote for that person, please make it known in the thread so I can add a poll option. DO NOT complain about an artist missing if you don't have intentions to vote for him/her.

The list is merely preliminary and if you want to vote for someone not listed - just reply to the thread and ask. The list isn't exhaustive and meant to represent every rapper who had a great year any given year. The list is meant to be interactive. I have left spots open for people to be nominated.

-----------------------------------------------

2001 on the cards today!

I thought I'd also make a new hashtag for y'all to follow, so you can keep up to date with every thread release. Let's go with #BRAColi.

--------------------------------------------------

Here are the results thus far (10/5/3/2/1 point system). If you see a name/name, it means they received equal amount of votes and are registered in the same rank spot.
